I already have my dream guitar, the black Ibanez on the left. Needs a lot of work though. Need to strip the disgusting finish off it and stain it, switch pickups for filtertron style ones and wack a bigsby on there.
The other one is a beauty the singer picked up for me at a pawn shop, LOOK AT IT. Needs a lot of work though, internals need a do over and the nut is completely busted.

Re: What's on Your Gas List?

Actually, I have to change my mind on something. If I was going to get a really nice acoustic, I would love me one of Frank Falbo's. I played them at NAMM, and they play and sound amazing!

Wow, thanks man. That means a lot. I'm gassing for a couple of 3-D scans to convert to tool paths, so I can reduce some of the hand carving required. Does that qualify as GAS? :)

Re: What's on Your Gas List?

We would all like one of your guitars Frank trust me on this! When I hit the lottery you can make me a custom 25k one.

Re: What's on Your Gas List?

I've always wanted a "non-reverse Firebird"
A vintage one is $4K+, the early 2000's RI ones go for $2K+ and the 2011/2012 ones go for $1200 or so. There's NO reason I need a guitar that costs as much as these, but I still want one, dearly.
While we're at it, what was SUPPOSED to be my first "nice" guitar was a "Skylark" (Made by Matsumotu, sold thru the JC Penney catalog, of all places.

There was just NO way I was gonna afford a $350 guitar back then (roughly $750 today), all I could scrape together over most of a year was $165, which got me a bolt-neck Hondo LP copy. I did see a red Skylark at the JCP OUtlet store (where the broken stuff goes to die, ha ha) a couple years after I got my Hondo, but it was still almost $200 (and was broken). I see Skylarks on Ebay, but they always go for more than I can afford now.

Oh...my good lord. Look at that Neck-Thru doublecut. Just look at that pretty thing.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I now have a new obsession on CL searches.

Re: What's on Your Gas List?

Hay Frank, do you have a CNC mill? If you do, is there a way you could rent or borrow a digitizer and use your mill to scan the items. Other wise what about programming them using SmartCam or some other CadCam software.

Re: What's on Your Gas List?

Being that I'm on quite a small budget, I'm picking up an Ibanez EW20 acoustic-electric next month (being that it is my first acoustic). Also getting a decent MIM Strat for free which I'm planning to mod with a decent preloaded pickguard. As for amps, I'm still looking and putzing around with ideas, but I know for a fact it needs to have EL34s or something extremely similar to that classic Marshall/British sound.

I have my electric hollowbody out for scan at the moment, auditioning a certain process. Trouble is I keep selling what I make so its down to making time to carve originals.

Ok back to GAS, a 65 Amps Monterey, a Robotalk pedal, a Bradshaw power supply, More Lava cables for the pedalboard and Asterope for the long runs.
