What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

Well...

The last one I felt like that was a 73 Les Paul Tobacco. And I bought it. While it was Gibson/73/Tobacco/Double cream/Minty....the ONLY thing that mattered was how it felt.

The other was a Yamaha Pacifica 712 in a pawn shop for $150. I bought that too. Perhaps should have held on to that one...

Epiphone Sheraton at the Orlando Guitar show (w/ Bass Med & Stratdeluxer). Left that one there.

When I was shopping for a classical, I picked up a Taylor that was mighty fine feeling pice of wood.

And, i'm not saying that because I'm a Jackson fanboy at all. The first one I ever bought is about as perfect as perfect can be. Low action - no buzzing, hard-wearing, and solid tones. It really is dream come true. the only thing I hate about it is that I play so often on it my strings wear out something fierce, so I'm always playing on worn strings. :(

Playing and tone wise.....

...but I still GAS further, and trying to track down either a nice early 80's Kramer Pacer, or maybe a Charvel custom shop :bigthumb:

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

stock 1981 charvel strat with a all maple neck, two hums and a vintage brass trem.
second was the '81 charvel star with a lightning bolt graphic

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

Best I have ever played was a '54(?) conversion to '59 spec Les Paul, the guitar was pure magic. It was an amazing player and notes just flew out of the guitar, with some seriously 3D PAFs in it, it was guitar nirvana.

Off the rack - PRS Mira, spectacular guitar.

It's hard to get more metal than that. This is your definitive no-nonsense, no-makeup, no-posing, no-silly-costumes metal guitar. I still desperately need one like this, maybe with some pickup experimentation. I'm becoming something of a Jackson fanboy; I cackle with glee whenever I see Jeff Hanneman onstage with a Soloist, or Kirk with that Rhoads.

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

In the market for a strat went to the local gc to try some out. And the mim deluxe players was out of this world. Only thing that has ever topped it was a warrior handmade out atlanta I think. Played a few at Sam ash in Orlando a few years ago and have been dreaming about them ever since. The tigerwood cap on the singlecut didn't hurt either

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

Just finished on the phone to one of my guitar playing mates and asked him the question. He owns a white LP custom, Peavey Wolf, Fender Strat plus a few LP copies and his favorite guitar that nothing compares to is a Blueburst Yamaha YSG...... that I sold to him several years ago! Lol....

It's great to see such a wide variety of guitars hitting the mark, keep them coming.

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

The ones that I setup for myself.

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

The best I ever played? Hmmm, probably a Klein that I found in a local shop for the low price of $3.5k US. Balanced perfectly, lightweight and low action. Something like this:

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

I think there are two types of "best playing". I know that sounds crazy.
Let me try and explain. I have a Peavey Rotor Korean EXP. For me, its an "actual" best player; Super low action, enormous frets , flat radius.I don;t seek lush tone from this. Its for high gain and the amp does most of the work tone-wise.
Then, there is another guitar, with slightly higher action. Its doesn't play as fast and slick as the Peavey, but the tone and the responsiveness just kind of let you rip on that guitar with quick fluid and seamless licks.
I love both.
That said, I know a guy with a vintage '58 Strat that has the best tone I've ever heard in my life, but it plays horrendous, but he manages to wrangle every last ounce of playability and damn well too..I don't think that guitar has ever even had a setup. Vintage Strats with 7.25 radius are not real great players. Even a real old Les Paul is not a fantastic player compared to a Les paul style guitar guitar with modern appointments.Thats why i love my Agiles. mainly the bigger frets..essential to being able to get fast track times.

An old early 70's telecaster my uncle has. Every time I visit I sneak away and play it an hour or so.

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

It's a tossup between Suhr's Modern Elliptical as found on his Modern series (.780" to .830") and my own Stinnett SS6, which is to be expected as me and Will spent more time discussing the smallest details of the neck carve than we did about the rest of the guitar.

They're not the same but at the same time they both have their own merits.

For obvious reasons I am partial to the SS6 but the Suhr I played was so effortless it kinda felt like it played itself :9:

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

The couple that I own are no slouches, but the best playing guitar I have personally played was a master built Gilmour strat.

no offence but that is really horrendous looking!:eyecrazy:

Ibanez Js1200, which is effectively a 540R body with a 9.5 Radius neck. I never expected to like it, but its shockingly good. The Ibanez Radius body style is the most comfortable body carve.

Re: What's the best playing guitar you've ever picked up?

There are MANY guitars Ive never gotten to play. Suhr, anderson, US charvel. So maybe one of those would blow my mind.

That Ive played:
I once played a LP Custom that has never left my mind...

My Kramer Pacer plays fantastic.. My Burny is one of the best playing axes Ive ever played. And lastly, my Charvel Pro mod is close to perfect. If the us ones are better then holy mackeral.

My Washburn WM526 is very close.. If the fretboard was just alittle less wide. Its the same thing that keeps me from jelling with a solist..
