I too think the tone on "You Really Got Me" is absolutely horrid. Same for "Eruption". Eddie apparently agrees, as since he "gained power" by the 2nd album, his tone had considerably less treble/brightness added at the mixing board. Something about those 2 tracks is way too bright.
But, who am I to say? Many, many people love the tone on that album.
I personally hate it. Hated it ever since I received it as a Christmas gift in 1989. I remember thinking, "gosh, Eddie sounds horrible. THIS is how Eruption sounds?"
Like I said earlier, VHII, Women & Children First, and 1984 are probably my favorite sounding albums.

Eddie never cut you with a knife, let alone a sword.....he always whacked you in the back with a giant brown log, and then dazzled you with edgeless stars.
