What's the cheapest way to record an amp's line out or pocket POD through a PC?

I have no soundcard...

I'd love to be able to record my amp's line out (I have a mute function so I can do quiet recordings) or even through my pocket POD for quick takes. What's the cheapest way to achieve this? I have a decent/good speced laptop and I'd be using a free program such as Audacity. So I just need an audio interface where to plug in my amp or preamp basically?

Thanks!

You can do it with a cheap CAI (e.g. Line6 TonePort GX) --- connect it with USB and set the TonePort GX as your input source in Audacity.

If you have a headphone out and a microphone in on your computer, you can record without a CAI.

What you can do in the event that you DO HAVE a microphone input on your computer, is run directly into that input (you may need an adapter or two) and into Audacity. Audacity has an input section where you can tell Audacity what source to collect audio from.

It would be very unusual for your laptop not to have a soundchip and a line in.

yep, headphone out and an adaptor would work, then?

Should do. Might sound wussy but then it might as well work well.
