What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

you have a hair on your pickup?

or... you have an all black fullshred7?

or...you have a seymour duncan pickup?

I see nothing wrong with it. Why would you assume something's wrong with it? cuz the coil tape is frayed a bit?

And there is something copper colored sticking out.

Pretty much the same thing I was thinking.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

that's coil shielding tape, and yes it's copper tape.

Nothing to be worried about. That's what SD does to ensure that the coils don't get easily damaged. Take a DC Resistance reading, you should get about 17.2 Kohms from both coils in series, or about 8.6kohms per coil. If you're reading those values, then your pickup has no problems.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

Yep nothing wrong. If it were copper wire showing you'd have a problem!

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

Well, it definitely is a problem. I really don't get everyones attitude here. It's like you're all SD fanboys and are assuming that I'm bashing the company or something. It's definitely a quality control issue, it's ugly, it's visible on the guitar and makes IT ugly and I'm going to need to take a razor blade or something and trim it off.

Was definitely a problem, though. Most non-SD-fanboys would consider it a problem and exchange it if they could.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

^ I agree. Quality control of that pickup suck. Buy DiMarzio instead.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

I just want to add that I wasn't lashing out in that post, but you have to understand my frustration at your posts, some of which were ridiculing of me.

Imagine that you went and bought a brand new mitsubishi, but when it arrived at the dealer, there was a nasty looking gash across the paint. So you take a picture and upload it to a mitsubishi fan forum and everyone jumps you and say's "I don't see anything wrong there, looks fine to me" and implies that you must just be an idiot.

One, it's not a car it's a guitar pickup.

Two, I think people were looking for something that would cause the pickup not to function properly. At least that's what I was doing based on your wording.

Take it easy man, it was just a misunderstanding.

your analogy is fundamentally flawed.

using your example of a car, the "problem" with your pickup is akin to some fingerprints or water spots on the brand new car.

What's the picture showing...it shows that the tape is a bit worn out. That's all. It has nothing to do with being an SD fanboy. It's just tape. big deal. When or if you go to gigs, do you actually do close up inspections of the guitarist's pickups to check for signs of wear and tear, damage or faulty manufacturing?

Bottom line: it's a very very very tiny cosmetic oddity. And if you're getting this worked up about it, maybe you should get over yourself first, before getting all butthurt about people telling you that your pickup is functionally perfect.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

On the other hand, I see his point. When I buy something new, I want it to look new. If I buy a new butter dish, and the ceramic has a scratch, I'm going to take it back and and get another.

Fortunately, SD has a 21-day exchange policy. Exchange it for a new one.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

this is about that little sliver of copper showing along the top edge of that tape? was this a custom shop order or bought in a store or online?

if this is an expensive Custom Shop pickup, I might see a point here. if this is a production floor model, I'd have to wonder how many pickups are made there each day and realize that a small sliver of copper showing really isn't a service failure if the pickup works properly.

however, the original posts asks what can be done to fix it. go to stewmac.com or allparts.com and order some of that tape. that that existing tape off and put the new tape on. although, since Frank is aware of this thread, I might see where he'd ask it be sent back in exchange for one that is made to the op's standards.

just an opinion.

was it purchased new? exchange it. cosmetics obviously matter much more to you than me and if it bothers you then you should exchange it for one thats suits your liking.

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

what the...? again, I'm gone for 2 weeks, and we start b!tch!ng about copper foil tape?! Next, a topic will be opened about a newly bought pickup where the polepieces aren't all the same height straight out of the box. if something like that pops up, I'm bound to be calling any deity. And then to mention that I'm an atheist...

Re: What's this showing in the picture on my pickup?

Man! And I thought that I was anal about cosmetics!!!

But geeze man, if you don't like it, exchange it. What do you want us to say?!

You buy a pup and don't like the looks of it and you post here and ask us what's wrong with your pup without any detailed explanation of what you're talking about, and then you get your panties in a wad because we don't see anything functionally wrong and tell you so.

If you didn't want our replies, don't ask for them.

And if you don't want that particular pup, don't keep it.

Nobody's telling you to eat food with magots in it.
