whats up with Engl amps

are these amps high gain metal amps? I heard a clip or 2 on the internet and they sound realy high gain. I noticed they are 6L6 tube distortion but they seem to have more midrange than most 6L6 tube amps. would you compare them to a Soldano? I dont have a dealer anyware around me so I was wondering if anyone knew much about them?

They're so much more than "high gain metal amps", really! The higher end line's lead channels are pretty focused on high gain, but they also sound great clean, for 80's Rock or anything in between clean and all out Death Metal. Not all of them have a lot of mid range. Soldano is a great company, but it's really not comparable. These amps sound like the Marshall JCM800 line hot rodded to the max, there's no other way to describe them. The Powerball's lead channel comes close to the Bogner Uberschall's though

Nice amps. Great sound. They're too tight sounding for my taste, but others may like that.

I have a Fireball, and I can honestly say it's the best amp I've played (I play Death and Thrash metal, btw). The gain is VERY thick and punchy, yet very clear and articulate. Go to rocksolidamps.com and listen to some clips (although the recording quality of the clips varies greatly). I haven't played a Soldano in a long time, but I do know that the voicing is quiite different.

The screamer combo is 1 speaker and an EQ out away from being a huge GAS burden.

I really like it, but I want a 2x12 without shared EQ's. Still, it has great clean, and you can get pretty sick gain tones out of them.

they are very versatile though - the clean channel sounds wicked even when the gain level is right down, and the hi-gain tones are very half-5150, half-JCM 800 to me... very very cool amps!!

powerball.. to my ears the best metal amps to date.

it can do classic, it can do ultra high gain and it has a REALLY sweet spor right inbetween.

listen to Jag Panzers Mission (1943) briody is using it on that one and that tone RULES!!!!!

edit!! the SE head comes in an el34 version - this is the model i read a review on, and it stuck. my bad :burnout:
