Could be a psychoactive ectoplasm leaching from the wood. What kind of music do you play? Is the guitar giving off bad vibes? AFAIK, the only known fix is to place your weiner in a light socket and flip the switch.

Seriously, though, how much exposure to sunlight has this guitar had? Most materials, including tone woods, will change color with excessive exposure to UV light, although, I've never heard of something turning green.

Sounds like some sort of mould from dampness in the room. Where is the green stuff on the guitar? If it is on the fret ends and fingerboard, it will clean off. Give your frets a polish while you are at it.

not on the frets and finger board. it's on the wood of the neck. i don't think it's mold...

Okay. Are the green spots localised in one portion of the neck or distributed widely? (This time, I am trying to eliminate such possibilities as discolouration caused by contact with a guitar hanger or stand.)

you can see a good amount of it near the neck pocket. then some near the bindings.

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

Hahaha, that's not mold, and while it has a greenish tint, it's not green. What you're experiencing is wear from the back of the neck from playing too much. You're playing through the finish, and in a few months, it'll turn brown and then grey.

Congrats, you're practicing.

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

i dunno....wear and tear all the way down at the heel in the 1st pic?

The neck looks like maple. Is it finished or raw?

Yup, that's what it looks like. I am getting the same thing on the neck of my guitar.

Edit : Mine started out looking hazy, then it looked kinda darker brown, and then it turned this grey-ish worn color. I embrace it, as it makes the neck feel like home.

so it's not a bad thing?

hmmm... i was wondering, what would happen if i sanded down the neck to remove that thin finish? how would it feel?

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

I did that on my strat. It had glossier finish that caught my hand up sometimes. Feels smoother to me with a bit of the top gloss down.

Excellent. I did that to a knock off Strat I have. Then you put a few coats of tung oil on the back. Feels silky smooth!

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

I have that on a Jackson Fusion Pro. I don't like the look, but what can you do? Sanding it off and re-finishing might change the shape of the neck...

I also think this happened when the guitar lived in Oregon for part of it's life. The person I bought it from lived in a very humid area. All of the hardware was rusted.

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

I got that greenish stripe right under the edge of the frets on my strat neck. Looks a bit off but then again, I don't look there all the time.

Re: What's wrong with my guitar neck?

a lot of maple has slightly greenish bits to it anyway.
I have opened up maple to book match it, and quite often you get slightly greenish tinges to certain parts.
It wont affect the wood, because it is the wood........
You also get greyish brown bits as well.

All good
