Sorry it didn't work out for you. However, you got some geat advice from Lee, 59', etc..

I agree with you idea of starting with a good guitar. If you have a decent guitar to begin with, you'll probably have less trouble when you try modding it....as they say, "you can't polish a turd".

I'm currently having this same problem with a JB I removed from my Agile (replaced with a Tone Zone. The JB is a great pickup - have one in my Kramer, but it wasn't right in this guitar) a couple of days after getting the guitar.

So the SH-4 is in near new condition in that it was removed and put away safely six years ago and has a chrome cover. I've put this into a friends guitar (an ibanez AX something) and getting the same results as mentioned above. Basically, no volume and a single coil sound. Could the wires be color coded wrong? It's be a 1:1000000 chance...

Can you wire the pickup directly to the jack to see if it is working? To aid in the wiring problem, pics are always a great idea- several of them from all angles. This way we can better suggest some things to look at.
