What's wrong with my speakers? (sound clip)

Re: What's wrong with my speakers? (sound clip)

i think its the string buzzing slightly, nothing wrong with your speakers or amp

What amp and speakers? Sometimes, harmonically rich amps will drive a certain frequency real hard, making a speaker do that thing called "cone cry." It's where that frequency buckles the speaker. I notice it most on D or B single notes. Your clip sounds bad, tho. I'd try another cab, or check the wiring that the amp is plugged into. I've had weird sounds like that when an "almost ground loop" is happening with pedals or cables.

Bogner Shiva /w a G12H/V30 combo.

I am by no means extreemly knowledgeable about speakers, but the first thing that comes to mind when I heard your clip was a speaker cone just starting to seperate.

That sounds bad...and expensive!

UPDATE: I tried the Shiva with a 300w 4x12 cab, and I still get that noise! :yell: It only seems to do it with one of my guitars (the 73 Custom). That guitar currently has a 22k ohms bridge pup...could that be my problem. I would think so, but that noise doesn't sound like the clean channel being overdriven. It doesn't do it with my Reverend Slingshot (P-90s).

it sounds like static to me, and reminds me of a problem I had with my Vibrolux after I had it serviced and modded recently.

In my case, my amp tech traced it to long earthing tracks on the pcb 'talking' to each other. He modified the earthing and fixed the problem.

Hope that helps. Sounds like one for a qualified amp tech...

Yes, I'm starting to think this is an amp issue as well. Do you think I should send it in to Bogner or do most techs work on complicated PCB amps?

did you try other guitars? try a high action guitar -the one that does not buzz no matter how hard you hit the strings.
