So I have this trashy Esteban amp, as soon as you press the on button you're blasted with the sweet sound of loud a$$ static. Not sure what's wrong with it, someone help me out here please. I''l probably get frustrated and trash it but, meh

OK, you’ll have to tell us a little more if you want us to help you troubleshoot (because I am not spending time googling your amp).

1) is it a tube amp?
2) if so, are the tubes new and known good, or old?
3) does the static release in a burst then fade/stop?
4) does the static get louder or quieter when you use the volume and/or tone pots?
5) does this happen whether a cable is plugged into the input or not?
6) is there an effects loop?

Re: What's wrong with the thing

Esteban G10
1. no
2. N/A
3. Neither one, constant static, same volume
4. Only gets louder in overdrive
5. With or without
6. no

Re: What's wrong with the thing

My guess is that it is a by-product of the Estaban empire. Does it make static when noting is plugged in?

Re: What's wrong with the thing

Thanks for coming back - given its solid state and so cheap, I’d just trash it and move on - save yourself some time and energy!

If it has Esteban's insignia on it, only the meister himself can play it.

It simply is not equipment for mere mortals...

I had a Heathkit that did that. I never used it for instruments. I just rolled the bass/treble tone controls and used it to make ocean sound effects; like a synthesized tone generator.

Re: What's wrong with the thing

Still, something cheap to learn on. I would take it apart and see if any wires have broken loose. If nothing else, it becomes a workbench amp.

Mail it back to him! Like to his house! Someone's gotta know where he lives...

Re: What's wrong with the thing

"Latin Man Meet" - sounds like a social function I have no interest in.

It's probably a bad ground connection on the ring of the input jack, but I wouldn't spend much time on a $20 amp.
