What's your favorite Boss Overdrive Pedal?

Re: What's your favorite Boss Overdrive Pedal?

Know we are talking Boss here...but yesterday I picked up a Digitech stomp box catalog, and they have a handful of these "morphing" pedals that (supposedly) can emulate 3 or 4 different other pedals..for example, the OD version can do Boss OD, Tubescreamer, Dod250 preamp, all in one pedal. They have a distortion one too that can do DS-1, Rat, Fuzz Face, etc.

Is this BS or not? Sounds too good to be true, and we know how that goes, but I wondered if anyone has/uses one?

My SD-1 makes a kick-butt paperweight. Because of what it does to my signal when bypassed, it's a no go in my live rig. I only use it when recording a dirty signal in the stu-dee-oh.

I've tried them and while they DO offer 3 or 4 different flavors per pedal they're all very cold and lifeless sounding to me.

+1 i once had the Tone driver, hot rod and the metal master :smack:

Re: What's your favorite Boss Overdrive Pedal?

I think the best overdrive Boss ever made was the original OD-1 with 2 knobs, Volume and Gain. Then, the Super OD came out with the addition of the tone knob, and like a moron I sold the OD-1 to get it. I think every boss OD since the OD-1 lacks something and makes the tone skinny.

Actually, I'm done with Boss, DOD, Ibanez, Marshall, and all the other budget pedals.
Anytime I plug into one, now, it just sounds like typical Guitar Center junk.
After delving into boutique OD's, I've never looked back. They cost more, but they use higher quality components, wire, and pots. Plus, they're designed by guitar players with REAL EARS, not some Japanese Engineer creating something Boss can sell for $39. You get what you pay for. Learn it, live it.

Ibanez Tube Screamer with mods.....LOL

Boss DS-1.....The OS2 is pretty good also(versatile)

Have you tried the Boss OD-3 and BD-2 Bluesdriver through your rig John?

Re: What's your favorite Boss Overdrive Pedal?

Mods do good things Blues Drivers and Metal Zones....

Bugs me how the MT-2 in spite of the mods never gets a nice low-gain tone. MUD.

I have to confess, I was never crazy about the DS-1. I've just always gotten so much more from my bd-2.

Actually I don't own either of these 2 pedals, but I would like to have an original OD1 to try...

The OS2 is pretty cool, but it needs tweaking to really bring it around..I Love the versatility of tone with the OS2 on that color knob..I've modded 4 of these OS2s and they are pretty cool pedals also..

I have an OS-2 (OD / distortion combo). I think maybe it is too touchy. Has enyone else had the same experience with these?

The OS2 is pretty lame unless it's modded....I really couldn't stand it stock!

I don't think I'd use any Boss pedal stock... the BD2 sure comes close though. I think they're great platforms for mods and once you mod them even the most expensive and extensive mods (Keeleys) turn the pedals into Fulltone killers while still being less expensive than an actual Fulltone!

I'd I had to take a stock pedal though I think i'd most likely buy G2D.

Hey korovamilkdud... count me in as one of the guys who never really got to like DS1s. I just sold my Keeley Ultra DS1 after deciding that it was jst not MY sound.

Yeah I thought it was just too fuzzy in it's response and lacked some some good clean volume.

John, from one pedal fanactic to another, you owe it to yourself to check out some of these Boss pedals I have mentioned, also the Marshall Bluesbreaker II.
George

Re: What's your favorite Boss Overdrive Pedal?

How does the Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal compare to the Boss Blues Driver?

To bad Boss discontinued the OD-1. They should be smart and reissue it.
I'd like to hear what Stratdeluxer could do with a simple circuit like the OD-1.
Probably make a fatter version of a nice neutral sounding OD.
