What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

Doodz...

I've got room on my board for a new distortion pedal. I have an Fulldrive 2 that I like a lot, so I don't need a Tubescreameresque OD. My Mesa's lead channel does a good old Boogie lead and good Recitifer style rhythm chunk. I want another flavor!

Things I've thought about:

Carl Martin Plexitone (Should I give Rid a vote for this? :) )
Duncan SFX-03 (we'll see what the reviews are)
zvex super duper
zvex box of rock

Let 'er rip! I just want to see how many votes we can drum up from everyone for their all time favorite distortion..

My fav OD is the Lovetone Brown Source hands down...great unit but I have 2 other units on order that might give it a run for it's money...

Fav distortion...I switch back and forth all the time but I always come back to my old Pro Co Rat...that said I really like the SFX-03 as well as my first issue Bixonic Expandora

Fuzz...I have an older Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz thats cool, I really like my Duncan Tweak fuzz as well...but I am actually on the hunt for another Fuzz...something really wild

Get something from MI Audio.
I do not think that my Plexitone will like yer Moogie Boogie much;)
Too much low mids in that amp:D
Rid a vote??
Eh?
Lost me here:D

I'm having fun with the FD II & SFX-03 running together....

As for fuzz, the T-Rex Mudhoney is good for a small amount of fuzz with the option of a very good OD.

You might give that a try....I think Gearjoneser runs a Mudhoney & FD II (I know he runs a Klon, but I seem to recall a blue FD on his board.....maybe he'll chime in.).

If you live in True Bypass land, I like a good old Fuzz Face clone. Cleans up with the guitar volume knob, & if you keep the gain low & level high, works as a nice booster. The Full-Tone '96 is nice.

I have a soft spot for my old Big Muff too. Don't use it much now, but back when all I had were big old trasistor amps, it did the job.

Fulltone '69. It's like the finest Fuzz Face ever created. It's the pedal to use (with a Fulltone Clyde Wah Wah) to nail those Hendrix tones.

:) I guess I was thinking you'd recommend the pedal you designed! :) The mesa's clean channel is reasonably Fenderish. Much more so than the clean channel on the Dual Rec IME. Any particular fav from MI Audio?

I'll have to hit Fuller up for an endorsement at this rate. My pedalboard is quickly becoming an all Fulltone lineup! :) He's stuff just seems to work!

Any fans of the Distortion Pro? I liked the OCD when I tried it, but I don't think it is enough different from my FDII to warrant the dough...

No I will not recommend a pedal primarely designed for Marshalls and Hiwatts, and other Brit voiced amps, to someone using a Boogie;)
TubeZone or Crunchbox:D
As for Fuzz, look at Chicago Iron, no offense to Fulltone, but those Irons are like going from a SD-1 Boss to a Lovepedal Eternity!

Cool, good to know! One of these days I WILL own a Marshall and then maybe I'll revisit the plexitone!

I'll check out the Chicago pedal...never heard of them! :)

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

I've got a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive that I simply love in the OD realm of things. Note that I didn't care for it until I got the Keeley mod.

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

msawitzke, you should spend some time at The Amp Shop (Splash Sound), at the corner of Ventura Blvd/Woodman. They carry all the hippest new pedals, so I go in there once in awhile.

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

My favorite pedal by far is the Clay Jones OD. Out of the list you made, the SFX-03 looks pretty interesting :)

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

I found The Distortion Pro to be to fizzy, not enough muscle, just gain!

I enjoy my 1st issue Bixonic Expandora as well!

I've been there...the owner guy kinda bugs me, but I like Tina and the younger guy from bass exchange. True Tone has a good selection of pedals, too...they're kinda jerks too, come to think of it! :)

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

i usually dont use a distortion pedal but i have a boss OD-1 that i use to dirty up my little marshall on the clean channel because it gets a completely different sound out of it. its more of a garage/messy type of sound thats good if you wanna blast it

Re: What's your favorite distortion/OD/fuzz pedal?!

Over the years I have only used a few and the few I have used all worked well.
Rat............... more like a fuzz than a distortion.

Boss Super OD............ I used this pedal for about 7 years and never had any cause to change it....... with a good tube amp it workd real well.

Ibanez TS9 RI..................... I use this today with my Super Reverb and it is one of the best OD pedals I have used.

Ibanez TS9 modded bt Stratdeluxer97.............. Johns mods simply put make this awesome pedal................. Better.

Th stock TS9 RI is a really good OD, but Johns mods makes it a little more throaty and it has more bottom. It makes it different and IMO for what I do its a great upgrade to an already great pedal.
