What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

Tweed Champ.

Every time I give myself the gift of plugging into it I soon find I really could unload everything else and be perfectly happy!

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

I'm quite fond of the cleans and overdriven tones coming out of the '59 Bassman and the blackface Deluxe Reverb. I need to try out a few more Fender amps, though I find myself drawn mostly towards the Tweed spectrum of tones.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

The EVH 5150 III. :laugh2:

That is the best amp Fender has produced in my book.

Not a fan of "typical" Fender amps...

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

The reissue Vibroverbs are a big winner with me. :D

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

Rumour has it that Fender is going to reissue the Blackface Princeton Reverb.
Now that's a reissue I'd be looking at. Hopefully it'll be priced reasonably.

I guess my 65 original Deluxe Reverb would be my favorite Fender, but I haven't played many Fender amps.

I remember liking the Super a lot.

Interesting...

I just wish they would stop cannibalizing the names of classic amps for new designs.

The Champ XD or whatever they call them...just leave the name alone and put the amp out as a new line rather than mess with a known classic amp.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

Couldn't have just one. Tweed Deluxe, Super and Twin, Blonde Bassman, Brown Vibroverb and Princeton, BF Vibrolux reverb and Bassman, Vibro King...

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

the Red Knob. The gain channel has more gain than the lead channel of a JCM900 and has creamier mids. I did a retube of mine as it was rather noisy, Now it's studio worthy. Zac (other guitarist in my band) uses it live and it's incredible! We might use that for his rhythm on the album this year, but that depends whether he gets this 6505 he's scoped out and ends up preferring that.

I also have a silverface from the 70's... You can do anything with that amp...

Anything.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

I'd like a DR, but I'd take a Pro Reverb over that...I have a 68 Bassman head on a 4x12 loaded with Celestion G12-65s and I'm pretty happy now.:biglaugh:

Luccky! I also have '65's in a 4x12 marshall JCM 800 cab. Thats the voice of 80's rock. They are G-R-E-A-t!!!!!!!!!

This one. It's my blackfaced silverface. I removed the AA371 circuit from it and rewired it for AA864 (the first blackface). It's a real killer now. The normal channel is sweet and gives great pushed tones. The bass channel is a monster and has a buttload of gain (though not mesa or 5150) levels that isn't oversaturated. It's warm but it's also cutting. It's really a treasure to have and play.

For traditional...

65 Super Reverb, all Deluxe reverbs, Vibroverb, Pro Reverb, Bassman LTD, Bassbreaker, Dual Professional, 65 Twin.

For modern....
EVHIII, Pro Tube Concert Reverb, Pro Tube Twin, Super Sonic, Prosonic.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

The more I play it, the more I dig the Fender Super Sonic. Yes, it does seem like they're inconsistent (some simply sound better than others), but the good ones do some of the best clean and light crunch tones I think I've ever heard.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

#1 Prosonic- no contest!
#2 5150 III
3- Super-Sonic
4- Blackface Deluxe verb
5- Blackface Super reverb

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

If I could keep only one, it would be the '59 Pro...although my Frankenstein Bandmaster 3x10 combo is a close second.

Re: What's your favorite Fender Tube Amp?

I own 2 Fender tube amps. One is a 68 SF Super Reverb, and the other is a '67 Deluxe Reverb. Both are awesome amps. If I had to pick one I like the Super Reverb. More headroom and the 4 10" speakers move a lot more air. The Deluxe is a better choice for small venues and recording.

Its really hard to pick a favorite. Fender has made so many great amps over the years, but I would say any Black face Fender is awesome. The Vibroverb, Vibrolux, Twins, Showmans..... Hell they are all good!
