Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

I have 5 (maybe 6) combinations of amps I use when I gig (depending on venue size, Micing/non micing of amps, transportation etc):

Marshall JTM60 1x12 60w combo
Marshall JTM60 60w combo into 4x12 cab (never used this at a gig, but it's a possible setup)
Marshall JCM800 Dual Channel 100w head and 2x12 cab
Marshall JCM800 Dual Channel 100w head and 4x12 cab
Orange AD30 30w head and 2x12 cab
Orange AD30 30w head and 4x12 cab

I use my Vetta II Head(300W modeler but should equal about 100-150w tube) with a 4x12 cab.Sometimes i use a full stack but in most places this is a bit overkill.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

I went with my pickup rig, a 100 watt head and a 112 bottom but my usual rig is a 90Wx2 tube rack and two 112 cabs.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

2/12 cab and whichever head seems to inspire me at the time. Always useing different ones.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

Morris 50 watt head - Morris 2x12 cab. It's nice having the head to be able to plug into different cabinets, but looking back I probably would have just had a 50 watt 2x12 combo built. I haven't come across a volume situation yet where 2x12 wasn't enough, except for playing outdoor gigs without a P.A. which is just stupid.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

It really depends on the size of the venue. I played in front of 800 people inside a huge school gym with only a 50W 1x12 combo, and it was only my Roland VGA3 which is a solid state. Everyone could hear me just fine. And I was playing with a full band, including a keyboard.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

I use a 50 watt head with 4x12 stack. I get all the juice I need and then some. Actually thinking of downscaling to a 2 speaker combo.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

None of the above for me. I use a 200w power amp on a rack with 280w of speakers in my 4X12.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

i said my pick up and go 1x12 90 W (ss) ... my other rig is 2 1x12" cabs, 125W per side (ss)

although after the UGD jam, i am a bogner snob :D - 4x12" !!! (thanks GJ)

see I usually use a 1x12 50 watter. I find a 4x12 to be too heavy and bulky and 100 watts way too loud. I think a 50 watt head and 2x12 would be acceptable though.

+1 only mine is 60 not 50 watts. I'd like the 60 watt head version of my combo and a 2x12 cab.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

I only have one live rig-
DSL 100 or VHT 100CL Head
4X12 Cab

I am going to a 2X12 soon....

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

single recto 50 watt head and my marshall 4x12. does pretty much anything.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

I use my GT6 through one 1x12 combo, or sometimes 2.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 Watt 1 X 12" Combo Never had to have it MICed yet, but if I'm in a stadium sometime soon I'm sure I'll let you guys knows.
Rock ON! :13:

260 watts into homemade 2x12".

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

3 basic rigs, depending on the sound I need or the volume. Here goes:

1. BF Fender Bassman head (Export amp); 65 watts, through my old Vox open back cab loaded with Jensens.

2. Boss GT-8 into Mesa 50/50 power amp (running on 50 watts only) through 2x12 Marshall cab (Celestion V30, Electro-Voice 12L).

3. Same pre and power section, but running at 100watts (50 per side in stereo) into both the Vox and Marshall cab.

I use rig #1 fro old school rock, blues or country gigs in smaller rooms. Rig 2 is used when I need a lot of different sounds in small to medium rooms. I add both cabs and run the full 100 watts when I need a bunch of sounds at high volumes/big rooms, or just need maximum headroom.

BTW, my favorite sounding rig is the Bassman/Vox cab combination. :)

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

All I have is a 50 watt head and a 2x15 cabinet, so that's what I use for everything I do.

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

well I've used a few different setups over the years...I've done a 100watt 2x12 combo, around 50 watt 2x12 combo, a combo with a 2x12 extension cab, a rack with 2x12 cab, a 30 watt 2x10 combo....but lately I've used 1x12 combos at or below 50 watts so that's what I voted.....

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

Peavey XXX 120wt. 2x12 combo into a 4x12 and a Line6 Duoverb HD into a 4x12.

I have a pair of Peavey 412MS bottom with Sheffields running in mono. I don't have to blow anyone out to get a real full sound and I can run a rig on each side of the stage so the band is real comfortable hearing what is going on. My bass player loves it, it is like having his own personal guitar monitor on his side of the stage. He can control the volume to fit his needs and I can do whatever I need to on my side of the stage as well. Most soundmen seem to like the set up as well. Makes it easy for them since I don't have to be so loud that I can be heard across the stage from just one rig. I would like to have 2 matching XXX combo/4x12 rigs but I have pretty much run out of gear money for this life and the first half of my next one. Would look real cool up on stage too!

Re: When gigging or playing live, which size amp & cabinet do you use?

If I can't carry it through the door of the venue with a guitar case in my other hand then I don't gig with it. I'm actually unloading my Fender HotRod Deluxe because it's more amp than I really need and the tone pales in comparison to my other amps.

I gig with a Deluxe Reverb Reissue or a highly-modified Blues Junior.
