Re: When playing with others do you use reverb?
This is exactly what I do. I use it all the time in the studio just to add some atmosphere, but I never use it live. I let the room reverb do the thing, and I'm usually running a short 1 or 2 repeat delay if I want a reverb-y effect. If the amp I'm using happens to have reverb, I'll put it on 3 if it sounds better that way.
Honestly unless I were playing for ambient stuff or in a surf band, I don't think I'd ever have a reverb pedal or tank in my rig. I had a Verbzilla at one point and it just seemed redundant for what I do.
I like reverb for practising at home or recording but I never use it when playing with a band. In a band setting if it's set low I can't tell the difference and if I turn it up it detracts from the clarity and precision I like to hear. If I want a reverb-like effect I use a delay pedal set for tasteful ambient repeats.
