Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

I check out the guitars first. After that I'll go look at the amps. In most of the shops i go to the pedals are locked up at the counter and they rarely have anything new

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

Guitars ... I look at the ones I can't afford first ... then the mid priced ... then the low end.

Then amps

Then pickups

Then effects

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

I try to avoid the guitars & amps section (since they are intermixed) whenever possible. I have a bad habit of going to teh guitar store for strings... I always get my strings, it's just that sometimes they are pre-strung on a guitar.

But, how I do like to stare at a wall with a couple hundred guitars hung from it. It's like a gentleman's club for guitar players, only cheaper.

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

At GC, I always go to the guitars first. I'm always hoping they'll have something that will blow me away. Never happens though......

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

When I go to West L.A. Music, I always head straight for the AMPS!!!

I already know what kinds of guitars they have and I'm really only interested in guitars that I've wanted and researched--besides, I'm a Gibson Man and I usually have to order my guitars.

The amps at West L.A. are sick! They have tons of heads on the floor and even more in another amp room where you can seriously crank a FULL-STACK to 11 without the managers or anyone getting mad! They always stock Marshall JCM 800s, Plexis, JCM 2000, VHT, Randall, Line6, Krank (they even had the Krankenstien!), H&K, Vox, Fender, and more if you look around. Any time I go to the shope I get serious GAS for amps and more amps.

My vote goes to AMPS.

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

I usually go with a friend of mine and we both plug into the BF fenders and do a quick clean jam or something.

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

You have to have a guitar to use an amp, so I go to the guitar section first. I usually just pick up the same blue American Strat with a maple fretboard that has been there for months. Then I go to a small combo and play to myself, not the whole store, until my friend realizes that he is not going to buy a bass that day.

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

Nothin' more attractive than wall full of lovely guitars... I'll never forget the 12x5m wall of High end Gibsons, PRS and Fenders of Belfast Guitar Emporium Ltd in Belfast...

Dream on :32: :32: :32:

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

guitars i guess but really i go to what ever gear thats letting me down the most once i get my guitar im probably gonna go to amps first

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

It depends what store Im walking into. If its got all the things I like then I go to the guitars first.

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

I voted guitars. I always have to check out the Used ones. Then I look at pickups. I think I have a pickup fettish... :smack:

Re: When you go to the guitar shop.....

i go straight for the guitars. nothing else tells you what the shop is like as a whole quicker than the guitar section - if it's all new squiers and staggs, you wont find anything worthwhile in the used section, and the chances are the owners don't do repairs.

if anything over $200 is under lock and key, the guitars will be in good condition, but you'll get the nastiest atmosphere when you go and ask to try it.. this is why i alway buy used ;)
