I want to know how works the 5 way switch in my ibanez rg 570 because I want to change my invader pickup to a jb, but want to change the config. and i have no idea I know how to sold but not how the switches work
my actual config= neck, nech+sigle, single, singel+bridge,bridge
and I want =
sigle, single+neck,neck, neck split+bridgesplit,bridge.
Could you help me??
Thanks

The inline 8 terminal switches are numbered across 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 with the 4 and 5 terminals being the commons and are used as the switch outputs.

1 is the bridge hot
2 is the mid hot
3 is the neck hot
4 is the output to the volume pot.

Ibanez uses a few different wirings in their guitars and the schematics are available at www.ibanez.com

To start your mod wire the neck hot to the #2 terminal and the middle pickup hot to the #3 terminal. I haven't figured out how to split the pickups in the #4 position and keep them hum cancelling using the 5 way in that guitar. If you wired the common (#5 terminal) to ground, the coil link (red/white on SD pickups) of the neck pickup to #8 and the coil link of the bridge pickup to #7 the pickups will split in the #4 position but they won't be hum cancelling.

It may be possible to wire the splits to be hum cancelling in the #4 position but I haven't been able to come up with it yet. A dpdt push/pull pot would make the splits easier to manage and would also give you the neck/bridge full on option which is also a very useable tone on a RG 570.

5 is a common, 6-7-8 are simular to 1-2-3 just like on a Fender switch. they are used for tappind and running feeds to the tone control portion of the circuit depending on how the circuit is layed out.

Thank you Robert for your help, I´m gonna think in push poll pots, but may be gonna bring the guitar to a luthier, it´s a great art to do changes in a guitar.

The "normal" 5-way switches are something like this. You have to find the numbers youself....

Position, Terminals are connected 8 (<->):
1. 1 <-> 4; 5 <-> 8
2. 1+2 <-> 4; 5+6 <-> 8
3. 2 <-> 4; 6 <-> 8
4. 2+3 <-> 4; 6+7 <-> 8
5. 3 <->4; 7 <-> 8

maybe the numbers are wrong. With my 4 and 8 are common I thinkt this is a Ibanez switch with the numbers this way.... But I'm not sure...

Thank you Marcel, so I don´t understand what means the numbers, terminals? and wich is the result of convine them in your diagram. what means <->
I feel a little fool.
and thank you all for all your help, this is a great forum.

A sorry it was just confusing. It was late in the night ;)
I wanted to say that their is a common terminal (4) which goes to terminal 1 in Pos 1,
to 1 and 2 in pos 2,
to 2 in pos 3,
to 2+3 in pos 4
and to 3 in pos 5

the same with the 4 other terminals: 5 is common ....

the terminals are:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

I've just found the diagram but it's too large to post here i can mail it to you or you search on the ibanez website...
