Where do people get Tokai guitars?

Re: Where do people get Tokai guitars?

Modern Jap Tokais are top guitars, pups aren't too my liking, but still good sounding.
Mines an '02 cherry burst, one of the lower priced MIJ ones.
http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/ ship world wide and have a great stock.
As mentioned ebay is good, but beware fakes, but the lovely people at the Tokai Forum can be really helpful.
What you get is great build quality guitars with usually top notch quality control in comparison to some big players. They are the reason I will probably never buy a Gibson.
That all said, if you want something not Gibson shaped then the options are not quite so good, they've done a few PRS and strat clones but you don't see as many. Superstarts they seem to stay well clear of these days.

Here's mine.

Re: Where do people get Tokai guitars?

I have played some 80's tokai's that were some of the best P-Basses and Strats I have ever held in my hands... I have also played some newer ones that were total crap. I have not played anything since a 2000 so the newest ones might be really nice.

The ones from the 80's that I loved were much like that great run of MIJ Sqiuers.

All Ive found online in Canada have maple necks.. But I found one on the site posted here that has mahog.. How much do the LC85s run and how are those? I wouldnt mind a pup swap.. I plan that anyhow..
I like the LS100Q too

Over this side of the pond they're about £730 ($1100 US?). Second hand they go for about £300+.
Spec wise the LC's are the same as the LS, so mahogany body/neck, maple cap, rosewood board, just solid colour, block inlays and gold hardware.
The MKII pafs I'm not to keen on myself, they're a bit polite for my liking.
Great sounding guitars mind, and nicely put together.

I didn't like the MkII's in my Love Rock either so swapped them for a very rude set of Pearly Gates

Re: Where do people get Tokai guitars?

I bought a 1980 Tokai Strat on the local Craigslist coupla years ago. A lucky find; got it for next to nothing because it has one dead note due to a dented fret (F# on the G string @ 11th fret). Other than that the guitar plays and sounds great, really good feel and tone. I haven't had the fret replaced; that would cost nearly as much as I paid for the guitar. Screamin' deal on a sweet 36 year-old axe. (Though it was only 33 when I bought it). I call her Mustang Sally because the neck is so skinny & thin that it makes me feel like my hands are Jimi-sized.
