Slipped under the first fret when not in use. I got in that habit...oh 25 or so years ago when I was a college student. Didn't have money to waste on lost picks. Anybody could play my guitar but they new damn well not to lose my pick! I don't think I've bought more than 100 picks since. At a gig I might have another handy on top of the amp but then I might not. I can count on one hand the number of times I've dropped a pick while on a gig.

In the little watch pocket of my jeans, if I'm wearing jeans onstage. Best place I've found. Otherwise, they go on top of the amp.

I always keep one between the first 3 strings of every guitar, but I put them between the 2nd and 3rd frets. There are always a few scattered in the guitar cases, but I just recently consolidated them into a small box.....it's the box my UGD pickup came it and it has my name on top...so I don't forget who they belong to.
I used to keep one in my pocket with my change, but it's been so long since I've even been able to think about buying a new guitar that I got out of the habit.

+1. And it's always a good idea to keep a spare handy in your pocket when you're on stage. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's so tacky to have a bunch of picks on a mic stand or jammed into a Strat pickguard. If you're banging on your guitar that hard and have picks flying everywhere, you probably ought to be playing drums instead.

I've got 3 packs of various picks in my "misc guitar stuff" box, and about 7 or 8 picks laying on top of my amp at any given time, and I do the "slide a pick between the strings at the first fret" thing as well. I also keep a few backup picks in my gigbags and cases. Sometimes one in my wallet.
Picks are cheap, there's no excuse for ever being without one when you need it!

You know, I've seen dozens of pics of peoples boards with cans of Altoids and never considered this........thank you!!!
