Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Im new to this forum but I usually pick near the bridge because even with my leads I dig a lot of pm.When I strum I usually pick near the 12th fret for a brighter sound.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

It depends on what I'm playing and what I want out of it.

Different picking for different sounds.

There's no wrong or right here! :smoker:

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

I´ve even been known to pick behind my fretting hand for whole passages when I want a really wierd sound ;)

I will move around as a way of putting expression an nuance into my playing.

me too. I chose all of them because you get a different timbre with each.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Where ever the feel takes me, it all depends on the day and what I'm trying to achieve. Something always sounds a little different every day so I like to keep the consistency to my ears by using my picking to compensate.

depends of the effect I´m trying to achieve...palm mutes are always near the bridge, but as soon as I´m playing a string I´m not muting the pick could contact anywhere between the 12th fret and directly on top of the saddle ;)
+1, although, I'm most often somewhere in the middle.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Right between the pickups. Most of the time. Sometimes I go up and down depending on some random factor I can't even begin to account for.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Depends on what I'm playing. Everything is in the middle but power chords are between the top of the bridge pickup and the top of the neck pickup, on a sharp angle because of how I hold the guitar.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

I basically Have two picking styles:

1.) When I'm playing Rhythm, I use the Paul Gilbert picking style.
2.) When I'm playing solos I use the Yngwie picking style.

Both styles pick near the birdge.

i voted middle for each, but that is only an approximation as i move around to get different effects that fit what i'm trying to do

+1

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

somewhere between the 15th fret and where the hand goes if I play palm mutes ;)
or where I get the sickest pinch harmonics :p

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

For most rhythm work I'd say around somewhere in the middle (unless palm muting), but it varies. Lead work varies even more. I like to take advantage of the different positions in order to breathe more nuance and expression to my sound.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Depends. Usually I'm near the bridge for palm muting, but I've also picked almost over the neck. It depends on the solo / rhythm that I'm playing. There are some that I've played almost onto the fretboard.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Nowadays I try to pick in the middle or nearby the bridge pickup..it has more clarity and I have more control over the string because of the tension..I like that but I must get used to it.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Right between the two 'buckers for both leads and rhythm. Because palm muting places my pick right in the middle, I move away because I'd rather not jump back to mute. String is tighter in there for fast lead picking, but not so close to the bridge that you get that steel twang.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

When playing rhythm and leads, I play in the middle, mostly. Sometimes while I'm playing lead I may play closer to the neck, sometimes almost playing on the neck.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

i'm mostly playing near the neck, especially when im playing lead.

but i try to change the position a bit that the sound isn't too mellow.

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

Usually I end up picking right over the bridge edge of the neck pickup.

Though I often move the position around to get different sounds (especially on acoustic)

Re: WHERE does your right hand pick?

With all of you dudes picking in the middle... how are more of you not bothered by the middle Strat (SSS) pickup getting in the way?
