Where have all the trem covers gone....

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Excuse me kind sir but are you not supposed to have HEAVIER strings on your guitars (heavier than 9's I mean let alone 8's) given the shorter scale lengths (at least that of the Nightswan)??? I was told by "you know who" that it would brighten up my Blaze so I put 10's on. It did brighten it up. But it played terrible. So just wondering.

That's too funny!!! LOL!!!

When you changed string gauge I’m assuming you re-setup the guitar...yes?
You can’t just put heavier strings on without making adjustments for it.

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Of course: none of my concerns an issue if you’re wearing those red skintight outfits (Vivian Campbell and Gary Moore) of the ‘80’s!!!! LOL!!! Always did pis* me off that the white Charvel was missing the cover!!! LOL!!! Always felt that Vivian’s guitar tech. deserved a slap. Now turns out it may have improved the tone (and here I thought it was the Invader i.e. could have saved us all pages and pages of debate and frustration!!! LOL!!!).

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Hahahahaha! and picks...

I try to label the ziplock as to which guitar it was... if in fact they even came with one... Most times I'll make some quick adjustments and jam on it and see what it needs, and generally by the first weekend I'll strip it down and start from the ground up cause it's just much easier in the long run really and plus you really get to know the guitar and any issues it may have... I had my Nightswan stripped down the same day I got it sanding the old finish off the neck and slimming the profile, etc...

Yip. Re-setup the whole thing (neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, trem. springs added, you name it). Was just lousy to me. My black Jackson same i.e. put 10’s on and also lousy (lousy to play and sounded way too bright and almost “tinny”). White Jackson totally different i.e. absolutely perfect with 10’s.

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Ps,
Dale remember the Vivian 1984 tone you are chasing? 8-38's my good man.
Nope. Skintight red outfits, no trem. cover, and different picks!!! LOL!!!

Don’t have to chase no more either i.e. my black “JackVader” got plenty Vivian 1984 tone!!! LOL!!!

Nah look. I’ve always been one of those people that likes to have everything standardised and the same “across the board” and everything uniform. Thanks to these forums, and you guys, and a fair amount of mucking about I now believe that when it comes to guitars it’s an excercise in futility and is counterproductive when it comes to playability and tone quality. Some guitars just do not “like” or suit a particular setup EVEN guitars from the same factory and identical model or range. Here I’m referring to pickups, strings, and the like. It is what it is. And fortunately for me I’ve managed to put aside my APPARENT OCD (LOL!!!) and would rather have three different guitars each of which has their own unique feel and tone as opposed to having three different guitars that all “conform” but play and sound like crap.

Because of the shorter scale length of the Blaze I was told that ‘10’s would brighten it up and tighten it up. But it felt terrible to play. I think the distance between frets had something to do with this. That’s why I asked you about your Nightswan above. But I can imagine that 8’s on the shorter scale length would be nice. But nah. I’ve finally gotten over myself and stopped tweaking and mucking about, have three great guitars, and am now actually playing them (well other than the little “slump” I’m currently experiencing which you know about). Nice place to be and about time too!!! LOL!!!

And P.S.

The white Viv. Charvel, I was told anyway, had 10’s.

Oh and P.P.S.

You seen the new Marshall Studio amps.??? There’s a JCM 800 combo in the lineup and x 2 of them would sure do me, and my Viv. 1984 tone, great!!! LOL!!! Guess it will take some many months for them to arrive here but I’ll be ready!!! LOL!!!

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Iommi used 7's and 8's on an SG in C# so its been done...
I have my Swan in E with 8-38's and it feels good to me, but I was concerned because I only had one other 24-3/4" guitar but that was a number of years ago.

As far as Vivian using 10's that's a new one to me because he stated many times in print and on video that in his early years he used light gauges like most everyone else did at the time but he got away from that when he joined Def Leppard. Its a moot point because string guage is negligible unless you're really going for a bottom heavy sound and tuning down 3 steps.

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

Well you know my source for that info. so it’s quite possibly wrong let’s face it.

Speaking of which: what happened to my white Charvel anyway??? And I never did get a reply from Mr. Campbell on FB and nothing from that crowd that were going to host that Q&A session with his Lordship either.

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

I'm not sure man, I was actually going to follow up with you asking the same thing about how you made out with your search for that Charvel. I just further assumed you took it from there and were on the right track. I'll ask my friend about it as well because he was supposed to meeting up with Vivian sometime here real soon. I did tell him about you and the Charvel so he is aware that you are seeking it out. Hopefully something transpires.

And yea I know your source...hahaha you know what would brighten up one of those guitars? Gas and a match.

Don’t be nasty. At least the headstock has not split because I “looked at it funny”!!! LOL!!!

Seen Malmsteen do that with a Fender and some lighter fluid though ... (think it was Malmsteen but could even have been Jimi Hendrix come to think of it).

Re: Where have all the trem covers gone....

I was half kidding, I wouldn't want you to risk getting burnt twice. Hahaha! #blazed (kidding again) I do see you getting rid of that soon and getting another Jackson or Charvel.

Now that you say that about Yngwie it has me wondering too cause for some reason I'm with ya and seem to recall him doing that as well.
