Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

Have we already heard of all the most interesting stuff or are people not as excited about this years NAMM show? Aren't there usually more threads and pics on the forums during NAMM time?

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

I don't really know. I've posted a couple of threads in the guitar shop and pickup lounge but it seems that there's been less going on.The FMIC brands have been unusually quiet at NAMM, despite it being the 60th anniversary of the Stratocaster and the 30th of the soloist. Amp-wise there hasn't been much going on, the major announcements were basically the Marshall Tattoo and handwired series, Pete Thorne amp from Suhr, the Archon from PRS, the Helios from Bogner, and the AmpliFi modelling amp from Line 6.

Head over to sevenstring.org to see more NAMM stuff. There's a crazy amount of coverage over there.

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

However there wasn't much about amps at all over ss.org even, surprisingly. I would have thought more tube amps would have been released.

I was going to say the tattoo thing was the dumbest idea ever but then I saw the pics. They look pretty cool I have to admit!

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

For me personally there isnt much this year that interested me. Not many real tube amps being released, and I am not that interested in what most of the modeling amps are doing. The Line 6 AmpliFi is a cool idea, but I was completely turned off when I found out it uses POD X3 modelling. I wish Line 6 or somebody would start making serious attempts at the Kemper/Axe FX part of the market and really push the tone of digital amps forward.

I dunno, but the 2008 - 2013 stuff getting dumped on the used market is what I'm grabbing.

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

I was very disappointed in the lack of stuff this year.

Even Boogie bailed on Namm.

Tattoo thing - meh

9-strings - meh

New Strats - meh

New Gibsons - TRIPLE meh

Voodoo labs - ZERO

WoW

Best thing to happen to me in a year was The Black Winter.

Just seems like minor tweaking this year for the big guys. Zvex put out an ultra-mojo fuzz pedal, but it's a bit ludicrous IMO. AXL put out some pretty sexy LP-shaped guitars with single toaster pickups, bigsby trems and tasty 60s ice cream colors but nobody cares about AXL around here. Jan14_GALL_NAMM1_AxlBelair_WEB.jpg
Line 6 disappointed me with a crossover device, Yamaha apparently debuted some foam heads for edrums, but my friend who was there couldn't get the attention of the sales guys to try them.
I'm assuming there was a long list of shredsticks. The 9 string is old news for anyone familiar with Agiles from rondomusic.

eh. It wasn't as interesting as the Magnatones coming back or the Phil Jones tiny-speaker bass army stuff of previous years.

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

yep.
I felt it was obnoxiously crowded as usual, all the goof balls looking for endorsements & assorted sluts help add to the feeling that there isn't enough oxygen in the building. I spent most of the show wishing I had a bottle of industrial strength hand sanitizer.

I didn't see any breakthroughs.

There were a few snazzy updates in computer related music creation.
There were a few new vintage RI tube amps, all out of the price range of the average musician.
All the majors were majorly underwhelming.

the SD booth was nice, SD maybe having the highest ratio of noteworthy new things that wont cost an arm and a leg to give a try.
Also Tech21, Source Audio, & Dunlop/MXR had a few cool boxes, I'm worried about Voodoo Lab as their both only had like three things in it.
Roland/Boss felt like a going out of business sale compared to their grandeur in the old days.

No Guitar or Amp that was an answer to our prayers.... same old same old fair quality but disposable asian imports, or pay through the nose handwired custom shop etc..

I saw this the other day, but I doubt it's going to hold a candle to the AxeFX.

If Marshalls were built like Friedman amps, then it would be worth paying the extra $$$ hundreds for that cosmetic.

It's nice to have some money stashed away for opportunities like that.

ZVex put out another fuzz? OMG! That's just what everyone has been waiting for. Every pedal company should have at least 10 models of fuzz pedals.

This would be it. The selling point is oddball NOS black glass germanium transistors.

$449.
for a fuzz.

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

weird - can you touch em? couldn't that kill them with an electrostatic shock in dry conditions?

that's an excellent set of questions. I have no clue. :) I imagine it's a plexi window on the production runs...seems like a pedal that may not see a lot of action though. In 5 years it'll probably be Klonified and be the mysterious uberfuzz that costs 2500 on ebay.

Re: Where Is All The Cool NAMM 2014 Stuff?

I normally dont buy signature stuff but that Jerry Cantrell Friedman looks awesome.

Also did anyone notice Bugera has released an obvious clone of the Blackstar HT-5. They are getting ridiculous.
