Where to get guitar neck Scalloped?

I'm considering getting some of my guitar necks scalloped, but I don't trust the guitar techs in my area. Most of them are A-holes and charge too much, or they're just inexperienced and do a bad job. Is there anyplace I can send a guitar and have it scalloped. What kind of price would I be looking at if I had this done?

my advice is to buy a rock bottom dirt cheap beater guitar and practice doing it yourself before trying it on one of your main axes .. read as much as you can about how it's done, get a nice chisel, take small strokes, maybe some files and fine sanding ...

doing it yourself will build a skill, save money, and give you something to write about on a college essay

i gotta believe you cant get a luthier to do it for under $100, maybe more

My advice, assuming that you have a bolt on neck guitar, is buy a new scalloped neck from Warmoth. This way you can minimize your risk. In the event that you don't like the scalloped neck you can replace the original and sell the Warmoth. If you like the scalloped neck you can have a luthier modify your other guitars.

I'm assuming, based on his love of Ibanez's, that Warmoth won't have the proper neck joint. Get a cheap AANJ neck off ebay, and practice on it.

Hey, I just checked out Warmoth. I'm interested in the Earvana nut. Will this require any modding on my part? I'm not really good with this kind of thing, I'm only familiar with working the electronics. If I have to be able to cut the string nut, I don't think I can buy a new neck for fear of messing it up...:cussing:

last i checked, you could buy pre-cut nuts like stewmac or allparts or somthing.

Hmmm, I think I'll take matters into my own hands and learn how to scallop myself then. It seems to be the most cost-effective and beneficial choice.

JohnJohn, thanks for that link. I'll put an order on a Dremel Contour Sander tomorrow. When it gets here, I'll practice scalloping on my Warlock's neck (don't even use it anymore) and then on to my Ibanez SA160QM. I might scallop the high frets on my SX and Explorer if all goes well.
