Re: Where to get Orange Drops online?

blackrose customs carries them as does Lew, but I order them from mouser.com whenever I need parts for a pedal or amp and keep some on hand.

also bear in mind that orange drops come in different types. the last ones i got from mouser are the 225 type which i think are lower grade from the ones i got from torres which are also larger in size.

an orange drop is a type of tone cap. It it big and orange hence the name orange drop.

I used to pick up orange drops at radio shack... big ole' .022 uf ceramic caps. They sound phenominal in my P-basses. I stocked up on 'em. I got about... 30 in a draw upstairs.

Not exactly...

Check out page 505 of the following web page and you will notice that Orange Drop capacitors come in two different forms, each having a specific purpose

1) TYPE 715P POLYPROPYLENE FILM CAPACITORS
2) TYPE 225P POLYESTER FILM CAPACITORS

However, most of the time your looking for power supply or tone circuit capacitor and then the task becomes easier...

REMEMBER THAT THE VOLTAGE STORED IN CAPACITORS CAN KILL :smack:

then they are not an orange drop. orange drops are film foil caps, using either a polyprolpylene dielectric, or polyester. they get their name form the fact that they are range, and decent size for the respective values, as all film foil caps tend to be.

ceramics, on the other hand, and generally shied away from by tone purist, due to poor tone, and plenty of noise. this is for the majority of ceramic caps. there are some decent ones to be found. the ones at radio shack are general prupose, and, if possible avoided.
