Re: where to get tongue oil?

I don't know about tung oil ...
these guys sell an oil finish, though ...
look at the "oil finish" paragraph towards the bottom:

oil finish

Re: where to get tongue oil?

Actually now that I think about it.....you should be able to get some at Lowes, Home Depot, or any wood working/furniture making store.

Re: where to get tongue oil?

What do you mean - rub it all over
if you're refinishing your neck i'd suggest TRU OIL - its a polymerized tung oil and you can get it at a gun shop - it is used for gun stock - that is what I finish all my necks in
8 very very very thin coats with light sanding in betwee (0000 steel wool) will give you a neck so fast you'd better hold on tight

If you searched for it and couldn't find it.....it's probably because it's "tung" oil.;)

i'm really tired right now

Blueline,
yeah, the article I linked above is from Luthiers' Mercantile, and they recommend Tru-Oil. The article also briefly explains the application

here's a more complete version:
Tru Oil

Re: where to get tongue oil?

That Tru-oil article is in my shop - oddly enough - covered in tru-oil
you could use it to finish an entire body - i don't - i use nitro and tru-oil for the necks

are you looking for something to make the body shine, or are you looking to finish the entire body
you could use tru-oil for that - same steps as with a neck
sorry for being off topic

Canadian Wal-Marts may not sell Tung oil.Try Home Depot or Rona.I haven't worked with Tru-oil yet but I've heard a lot of good about it,another option is Watco's Danish finishing oil.
Also try marine supply places.
Just remember to soak the rags in water after you're done with them.
i found some on stewmac, so its all good.

and i know a guy that burned his house down cause he piled oily rags in his garage :laugh2:
