Where to start learning theory?!

i live in west texas, where the going music scene is low, fast metal...i know and play with many other guitarists....however, NONE of them knows music theory past a few pentatonic boxes...and i wanna get an edge on these guys, who are great guitar players...

my question is, where can a heavier guitarist start out learning theory? what sets of scales and chords should i make a priority?...i know of alot of websites, but almost none are clear and concise...i've yet to find a clear explaination of keys, circle of fifths, etc...

i know a punk/metal guitarist doesn't nescissarily need piles of theory knowledge, but i want to eventually open myself up to other styles...and understand them as opposed to just learning a cover song...

If you can afford it, get a really good teacher.

They'll help you make sense of things much better than anything you'll read on the net or in a book.

i wish i could find a teacher...

i live in a small town...45 minutes from the nearest city...so it makes it really hard..

there's one guy in town that teaches classical...but i dunno how much i could pick up from him in the way of my stlye of playing...
