Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

Alright, so yesterday I got a call from a close friend from high school. We were in a band together many years back & he is in the market for a new guitar. As sad as this sounds I've actually got the largest music store for about 100 miles around now! LOL, pretty bad considering I never intended to have a music store, I'm just a hoarder! Anyway he wanted a new guitar/guitars (he originally asked about an acoustic) that he could play before he paid & since I don't have to deal with shipping and all that I was able to give him a great deal on one of my Telecasters & my Taylor Big Baby.

Here's the thing, he brought over his Cort hollow body and a B.C. Rich Warlock that some guy from work just gave him. Both guitars were D.O.A. & both of them have issues ranging from minor to WTF!!!
He wanted to know if I'd be interested in taking them as partial trade for what he was buying but right now I'm trying to consolidate not expand my collection so I declined, at least so far!!! They both seem like they're going to play okay once I get them up and running & add in some elbow grease but doing that hasn't been very easy so far, its just been one thing after another...

The B.C. Warlock's electronics essentially looked like someone pulled out all the guts, stuck them into a blender, left it on high for a hour, then re-installed them so that's going to be a complete re-wire? There's no getting around that but I've got all the parts here already so I should be able to get it making some noise with a little bit of time and effort? Remember when finding a diagram on the Duncan website actually worked, those were the days hunh? Lol!!!

So the Cort, this guy is a beautiful looking & playing guitar! It's got some cracking in the finish but just the finish, the guitar itself seems to be sound & the cracking doesn't go beyond the top coat. I did get it working again, the issue was in the jack and normally this would be a easy fix but I can't take it apart. I CAN NOT find any other way to work on it other than sticking my finger tips into the F holes and fiddling around until I find a hole? I mean it is working now that the jack is fixed but he wants me to mod it for him. I.E.- new harness, jack, & pickup's but I don't know if that's possible & even if it is is it really worth it?

I'll drop another picture below of the back so you can see what I'm talking about, if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should do or how I can get these things done please chime in! I'm going a bit crazy trying to figure out how I'm going to build a new harness for a guitar that I can barely get my finger into...

I'm considering taking the Cort as partial trade if I can do something with the nut so it stays in tune better & @ the very least get a set of 59's into it (I know I can just splice into the existing wiring for them) but really, if I'm going to take it I'd like to know that upgrading the wiring is at least a possibility? Also I don't know if I'll need it or not but if someone can help me find a diagram for the Warlock that would be awesome! It's just a H/H, 1 vol., 1 tone, 3 way toggle setup, easy peasy!

Thanks in advance....

"As sad as this sounds" why this man? can you explain? ain't it fun having a music store?

Re: Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

I believe the semi-hollow will be a pain to upgrade...BUT should sound awesome!

Re: Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

It was, more & more it feels like I'm the curator of a guitar museum instead of a guitar player! Between my 11 amps, 16 guitars, and too many effects to count I spend more time messing around with $#|+ than I do playing. If the hit I'd take wasn't going to be quite so painful I would have taken a trip to G.C. or someplace comparable & traded in all my amps & probably about 10-12 of my guitars for one or two really great amps and one really awesome guitar... No matter what I try I can still only play one of them @ a time...

Thanks Trey, with some 59's in it I know it would! I mean I'm not a fan of Bigsby's and no matter what it's never going to stay in tune very well with that on it but the guitar does have great playability and I can get it for next to nothing? I just don't see why they didn't add some kind of a backplate? Trying to re-wire it is going to be akin to neurosurgery though!!! On the upside it is solid in all the places it needs to be solid! Anyway, I'm kinda going back and forth with it???

Most welcome dude!

Guys who know how to use Bigsbys sound phenomenal with them! I am not one of those guys lol

I found this article, perhaps it will help?

Re: Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

I think that article will definitely come in handy! It's essentially what I was expecting, as far as what I'm going to have to do but having step by step instructions will help out a lot & probably stop me from making a mistake or two? Thanks again Trey, as always you are my guitar hero!!!

Thought I remembered reading an article about it (several years ago I had a Jay Turser copy of a 335.) Hope it helps ya man!

That article is DEFINITELY the way to go. I used those instructions to re-wire my 335 a little over a year ago and it was much easier than some of the other tutorials I've seen and tried. The only thing he doesn't mention is to pull the harness through the bridge pickup cavity if it won't fit through the f-hole (it wouldn't fit on my 335).

Re: Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

I just finished re-wiring and setting up the Warlock. Considering he couldn't give it away last night it turned out awesome! I'm not a fan of B.C. Rich but I really surprised myself this time! I might even have to grab this one up? I installed quality components all around & it's got some amazing playability! A new set of puppies and she'll be one hell of a Shred Stick! The only problem is that now he's going to come over and try it, see how greatly improved its become, and either jack up the price or decide not to sell it at all....

LOL, guess I'm my own worst enemy!!! Thanks for all the help guys, as always its much appreciated....

Re: Where Would We Be Without Friends, W.T.F.!!!!

How about a headstock and a rear shot of the Warlock too? Interesting guitars.
