Which amp to build next....

Re: Which amp to build next....

BTW if you go with the IIC+ how will you handle the graphic EQ ?

In what way?

Do you mean the chassis? Or the actual circuit?

I know a guy who makes chassis & really nice pcbs for all of the above amps if it was the chassis that you were meaning.

Re: Which amp to build next....

I think he means the physical sliders and faceplate for the graphic eq. I think it's possible to buy replacement ones for the mkIIs, probably even directly from Mesa.

Ahh they're just sliding pots. Fairly easy to get hold of from places like mouser/farnell etc

and I wont be using faceplates. It will be a black powdercoated chassis with white silkscreening. Possibly with different lettering/graphics

Slider pots are really prone to collecting dust and trash and becoming crackly and disfunctional.

That they are. There are certain precautions you can take though such as this.

But I imagine this is just going to be a set and forget situation anyway as I rarely change my amps settings once I get them set up.

Re: Which amp to build next....

My Mark II has a large heatsink on the back . How important is that to the design? It's a lot of amp crammed into a small chassis so I would imagine it could be an issue in hot climates.

Id say it's quite important. It's there to dissipate the heat. As you said it's a small chassis. I'm most likely going to create an airflow tunnel within reason for ventilation.

Re: Which amp to build next....

The more I look at that amp the more impressed I am with the design. The shock-mounted chassis is a really nice touch, as is the extra power plug on the back so you can power your amp and pedal board from one socket. I'm surprised I don't see stuff like that on many other amps.

Re: Which amp to build next....

Ahh. That's my friends amp. It's really cool. I've been tempted to pick up an AOR to gut for it as the chassis is just perfect for that circuit.

You could probably do the same with a Plexi style chassis. Those have a lot of holes in the front to use for the controls. Plus, you don't have to sacrifice the poor little Laney.

I'd vote for the Mesa. The Mark series is one of the most badass collection of amps. A MKIIC+ or MKIII definitely needs to make it's way back into my stables. A Deliverance would be nice too. ;)
