What do you guys think?
Should i get plain Basswood or Basswood with the maple cap?

I was going to get a brand new body, but i wanted to know the weight before i get it and see how it looks as well.

i am torn between three different bodies

this one is really pretty but is 4 pounds 1 ounce. Is that too heavy for a Basswood/maple cap finished body?

This one is nice as well and is 3 pounds 15 ounces. Basswood/maple again

This one has a better weight but is plain Basswood without a maple cap and is 3 pounds 11 ounces. Spectra Blue

This one is kinda interesting and is plain Basswood at 3 pounds 13 ounces. Apricot Flake

which one would you get??

I am gonna mate the body with a one piece maple neck and 6 hole trem. VSVG.

i wanted to go the Warmoth showcase route so i could already see what i was getting and see the weight. My favorite looking one is the fireburst, but i am afraid that the 4 pounds 1 ounce maybe a bit too much?
you could do a search yourself and see what is also available on warmoths showcase under basswood.
i was also thinking to get a mahogany body with maple cap, but i am thinking basswood would work better especially with a one piece maple neck. And i love the way basswood sounds.

4 lbs 1 oz is not heavy... i understand basswood is super light but lets put it this way a normal alder body is around 5 lbs so...

Re: Which body should i get??

Don't know what you did with the links but none of them work. Around 4lb is very much the lighter end of things for a solid body. If you want less you'll need to go for one of the chambered versions (I'll give you a clue - they're excellent).

Re: Which body should i get??

I'd get basswood with maple cap to tighten and brighten the sound a bit, and the lightest of them. The maple adds a bit of weight to the body but most of the weight comes from the basswood since it's thicker so just take the lightest basswood/maple top body. And I myself would get a rosewood board neck, but that's just me. me likes warmth.

Re: Which body should i get??

As far as sound and looks go, I would totally go for #1. And besides, a little weight on the body only makes the guitar feel more solid IMO.

Re: Which body should i get??

So how much would a 4 pound body make the entire guitar weigh at the end? around 7.5 pounds???

Re: Which body should i get??

They're both nice, but heavier or not the first one is classier because of the Natural Dye finish on the back.

Re: Which body should i get??

yeah, doesnt it suck that the paint the lesser grade bodies nicer?

and why in the heck does warmoth mess up nice maple tops by putting top mount jacks???!! Put the side jack for christ's sake!

Re: Which body should i get??

Worse than the jacks which are characteristic of a strat body is the fact that they bother to bookmatch the maple tops when they're top routed. Almost half the maple gets covered by the pickguard.

Still if you need the maple then go for the fireburst one. The blue and sparkly ones are nice too but the blue one would probably look better with a maple neck.

Re: Which body should i get??

I like 2 and 3, lookswise. I think I like 3 for a more subtle style with a maple neck. What pickguard would you use with the burst?

Re: Which body should i get??

I dont know about the blue its a bit boring i think.

i would use a white pearl pickguard with it. H/S/S. with only one volume knob. no tone.
5 way switch.

I have two one piece maple necks to use. both birdseye.

Re: Which body should i get??

If you want a Maple top... let me put it like this: Paparizou :9:
(I do hope you got it ;))

If just Basswood, I'd go with #3, boring or not, I just think it'd look cool with either a white or (especially) Black Abalone pickguard :D

Personally, a few weeks ago I was looking into the Peavey HP Specials and the EBMM Axis and I think I liked the plain basswood ones better over the ones with the flat maple top
(the Peavey HP Special CT USA also sounded great but the top on that one was arched :dunno:).

All of them with maple boards naturally :)

Re: Which body should i get??

Nobody digs the Apricot flake one???

i think that one is nicer than the plain blue one.
Dont you think it would look nice with a unfinished birdseye maple neck??
