First thing to figure out is what you want to do with a delay pedal. Are you looking for more of a crisp, precise echo, a washy ambient thing, doubling, slap-back, or a combination of these?

hardwire delay gives you all those things, for that exact price. I've got it, the tape echo is what i use if anything. has digital and analog delays, plus a looper... i imagine it'll go on sale soon, i believe this line is going to be discontinued if not already.

I'm looking for a pedal that can do all of this. I like to experiment and get some corky an interesting sounds.

I know a lot of players are lukewarm about Boss pedals, but the DD-7 Digital Delay is a great pedal. I've been having a blast with it. It does it all....looping, tap tempo, modulation, analog tone, reverse guitar, and it's got more processing power than most of it's competitors.
Honestly, I think the DD-7 and PS-6 Harmonist are the best Boss pedals I've ever come across.

Boss DD-7, Boss DD-3 or the MXR Carbon Copy. All good solid and proven delays.

For short delays, the BBE Two Timer and the Rocktron Short Timer are really good. The Boss DD-3 also does short delays, but is not as warm sounding as these two. If I need anything longer, I'll use the Line 6 Echo Park.
