Re: Which Fuzz Pedal do i want?
The '70 is a good silicon fuzz... lots of cut and more gain than the '69. However, you have to spend time tweaking it. The internal trimmer is key to the whole thing, and it controls the waveshape. I like both the '69 and '70. Silicon fuzz can sound rather dry compared to germanium fuzz, so be aware of the differences.
MJM makes the London Fuzz II which is another silicon fuzz. Check out the mp3's on the website.
Proanalog makes the Scary Face, which is a higher gain germanium fuzz. Some people say its the best, but I haven't used one. Scotty uses NOS Mullard trannys in everything, and is reportedly one of the best at the old-school, classic fuzz design.
Addrock has the Germanium Fuzz. The mp3's sound awesome, and an online buddy says it really is a super clean, high gain germ. fuzz. Let me see if I can find the clips..... here 'tis

Another great brand is LOVEPEDAL. Sean's great. He's more of a modern fuzz guy than an old-school, classic designer though. The lovepedal Karl is a killer box that I did a review of this summer. Also, the Black Beauty is very unique in that it combines the Rangemaster circuit with the Fuzz Face circuit (the 2 are cascaded) so that you can dial in the amount of FF gain from a basic Rangemaster tone to start with. The box uses NOS Mullard trannys, and sounds great. The guy with the Addrock clips has the black beauty on his website as well, and I must say its quite impressive.
Check out the websites by doing a google search. Fuzz is cool, each good one has its own personality....
