Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Gearjoneser

Gear Ho
List all guitars where you own more than two of the same model. Any particular reason why?

Specify which pickups you have in them, so we can see if they follow a similar pattern or if they cover a wide variety of tones.

I have multiples of Les Pauls, Strats, and PRS McCarty, mostly because they're my favorite models. I can have ones with different tones, and I always have a backup in a live situation.

Gibson 35th Ann. Custom Black Beauty 3 pickup. Brobucker, 57n, Brobucker N.
Les Paul Std. Premium Plus Honeyflame. Brobucker/PGn.
Les Paul Std. Goldtop. Unoriented roughcast Custom 5/Jazz B. Pull up tones.

Fender Am. Std. Strat. 3 color SB. Surfer set.
Fender Am. Std. Strat. Pearl Dust Blue. Chubtone 63 set.
Fender Am. Std. Strat. Pearl Dust Black. C/59 Hybrid/Hot Rail 3 way switch.

PRS McCarty. 50th Ann. Seth Lovers. Perfect A2 tone.
PRS McCarty. C5/59, and will eventually be the Whole Lotta Humbucker set.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

For the last 5 years I've always stuck with one model of guitar, and then owned multiples of that guitar. They've just about always had high gain pickups.

Because I want to.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

In the past I've had lots of varying multiples. At the moment of my 8 guitars only multiple is two Gibson Les Pauls (Custom black beauty and an amber burst ), and two Teles (TeleGib and Cabronita).

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I have 3 Strats basically for one reason .... I owned and played several '70s Strats in the 1970s, and in the end, I gave up on them. I had no idea at the time that i'd been struggling with the worst Strats ever made .... too heavy, huge necks, terrible neck pockets that allowed the three-bolt necks to move sidways, useless pickups, 1/2" poly finish etc.

Twenty years passed and a friend had brought an amp round for me to check out. It didn't work so i got it going and was testing it with my Tele. He had also brought a guitar and said "try this". I just plugged it in and kept checking the amp. The guitar in my hands surprised me, it felt, played and sounded great. I said "what is this thing ?", and when i looked down, i saw i was holding a Tokai SilverStar Strat, which was their version of a 1970s Strat ... except they'd got everything right. It looks '70s, but feels and sounds like a '60s model.

I ended up owning that guitar by rebuilding the guts of my friend's amp for him. Then I put a set of BKP Apaches into it, and a Callaham bridge.

But i never fully trusted Strats and was wary that soon i'd need to pull it apart to fix some problem or another. A little later I got to buy back my old '68 Strat that I'd sold 20 years earlier, and a little later again I bought a new Highway 1 Strat. They all got BKP pickups and Callaham bridges.

Strats are too mechanical and prone to changing to own just one. They always seem to be moving around, although i must say the ones I have now are much better than the '70s junk i owned years ago. Of course in the intervening years we got this thing called the internet and i was able to discover i'd spent my younger years with the worst Strats Fender had made, and also how to deal with various Strat problems and issues.

But somehow i'd still feel compromised if I only owned one, the mental scars from those '70s boat anchors will probably never heal.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

For me, it's Strats. I had 2 because I wanted one with traditional singles and one with humbuckers... Then I acquired 2 more because I found good deals. I may be addicted to Strats.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Well I don't own multiples but I want another Tele! I built a plain blackguard style Tele, but this time I'm kinda tempted to do the deluxe/thinline route

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Lemme check...

2 floyd rose les pauls
2 custom built les pauls.
2 hipshot trem brw neck lp's.
2 1959 inspired lp's (custom and standard).
2 silver zephyr lp's.
2 exotic single piece top lp's.
2 single piece maple top lp's.

Those are just the duo's.

I have 30 les pauls, 10 strats and 2 teles. Those are my multiple-of-one guitar :)

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I just added 2 Teles to my family this week. Now I have 3 Teles I guess... because you can never have enough Teles.

One is an American standard 50th Ann.
One is a partscaster with pretty low grade parts in it
The other is one of my dream projects: P90 in the neck, 1/4 pounder in the bridge, Bigsby B5 on the tail, and a maple neck. I get all hot and bothered just thinking about it sitting on my work bench in the basement.

To many but here are some....

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I always used to favour LPs when I was younger and started playing but as I've moved on playing and influence wise I've branched out a bit more, so that's why I've duplicated up on similar guitars I guess:

3 LP styles:
Cherryburst Gibson LP Standard - BKP Mules

White/Cream Japanese Tokai Love Rock Custom - BKP Rebel Yells - Tuned to Eb with 11s

UK made Lemonburst Gordon Smith Graduate 60 LP style - BKP Black Dog (b)/Riff Raff (n) - I ordered this with money I was left after my grandad died

6 Strats:
Black USA Standard Strat - BKP Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour HSS

Cream Japanese Strat - BKP VHIIs and added Floyd Rose

Lake Placid Blue 90s Japanese Squier Strat - BKP Apaches - I picked this up pretty cheap with money I was left after my Grandma died

Natural/Oil finished 70s Japanese Strat (possibly Antoria brand) - BKP Mothers Milks but possibly getting EMG SAs - I found this in bits whilst at college and as they were going to throw it away I gave it a new home.

Honeyburst 'Bitsa' Strat I built with a Roger Giffin Ash body and a Mexican Strat neck - BKP Cold Sweat

Pink Hello Kitty Strat - Dimarzio Super Distortion and added Kahler Trem

2 Teles:
Natural finish 'Bitsa' with Alder body and Japanese Fender neck - BKP Blackguard Flat 50s

Sea Foam Green cheapie Gould Tele - BKP Piledriver

If you'd count owning Super Strats by different manufacturers as duplication then I guess I'm guilty of that too :D
White Japanese Jackson DK2M - BKP Holydivers - Tuned to Eb with 11s

Purple Ibanez S470 - BKP Nailbomb/Trilogy Suite/Nailbomb - Tuned to Eb with 11s

Red BC Rich Gunslinger - BKP Miracle Man/Trilogy Suite

Sunburst UK made Patrick Eggle Climaxe - Bulldog Extremists

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Yeah, I've got doubles of my favorite models. Triples of a few. When I find a great ax, I try to pick up a backup for it as well. I've destroyed one too many "irreplaceable" guitars in my time. The doubles are generally identical except for the finish.

2x ART100 and one ART300
2x RGT
2x RS315 Roadstar
2x SZ520 and one SZ720
2x VBT700
2x Destroyers
2x MIJ Artist double-cut
2x Michael Kelly hybrids

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Les Pauls - I do not need to explain this

Cadillacs - They are cheaper than Les Pauls

Vendettas - They are cheap

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Multiples of most of them: LP, SG, 335, Flying V, & DC LP. Those are the designs that I've bonded with over the years and I like to have variety in the colors. I install an assortment of upgraded PU's and alternative wirings in them. Keeps my mind occupied.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Telecaster

One is no-nonsense, and the other is all-nonsense

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I think mine runs like this

3 Strats

- US Fender 'Lonestar' Strat - modded with Planet Waves trim-lock tuners, Wilkinson VS100, Screamin' Demon, & 2x SSL52's

- MIM Fender 'Classic Players 50's Strat - so far only modded with a Wilkinson VS50

- Warmoth 'Strat' - Swamp ash/maple hollow body, maple/rosewood neck, VS100, C5/Jazz, Planet Waves tuners, LSR nut.

Two Telecasters

- MIM 'Baja' Tele - currently in bits awaiting me being in the UK long enough to fit the BKP I got off Kam

- Warmoth Tele - the blue, double-bound jobby that everyone drools over

Two LP's

- Tokai LS116F - currently stock with 59's, but due for the Joe Bonamassa set when I'm in the UK

- Warmoth 'Braveheart' LP - you've seen all that before...

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I own 5 Teles (all setup a bit different). 1. is a 52 RI (MIJ), 2. is a California Tele (Strat neck pickup & Tele Bridge) 3. is a Custopm Thinline Mahogany B&S with a flame maple top. It has a SD JazzN & 59B coil tapped. 4. is a black out Tele set neck, Pearly Gates. 5. is my Twistedcaster which has a SD minihum Firebird neck pickup & a friend made a custom Tele bridge pickup. It has some very cool inlays also.

I Own 5 Strats 1. is a black Eric Clapton Strat. Killer guitar, I liked it so much I bought a second one in metalflake Green. 2. The green one is Not quite as versatile as the black one. 3. a 57 RI that has been heavily modded. I replaced the neck with a Warmoth birdsye maple neck with Rosewood board. It has a set of Texas Hots in it with locking tuners, graphite saddles & nut I use this for a lot of the whammy stuff,(I use the whammy very subtle kind of like Gilmore). 4. is a Turquoise Strat with a RW board and a set of Surfers. Its very reminiscent of a 64 Strat. This one just got a new neck. The original neckc the rod failed so I replaced it with a Warmoth neck. 4. is a Gold Custom with some serious graphics on the body & headstock done by one of my oldest friends and assembled by another really close friend. It has Fralin Blues Specials, Ferraglide saddles, locking tuners and a graphite nut. Great playing & sounding guitar.

I own 2 Les Pauls 1. is a 1990 Standard in black. I recently removed the guard, replaced the pickups with the Slash Alnico II pros & blacked out everything else. Its a great guitar. 2. is a Black Les Paul Studio Gothic..

I own 2 Semi hollows. 1. is a 1985 Dot RI 335. My favorite Humbucking guitar. Great playing and sounding guitar. 2. is a 2006 359. Really nice player and it sounds great. More like a LP then my 335, but the size makes it comfortable. I prefer the 335. I will soon be getting a Brian Monty blues Queen, which is his version of a 335. The primary difference is its a solid back, sides and top(all maple) with custom pickups wound to his specs(should be a killer guitar). I should have it within a month....

Acoustic

I have about 6 Dreadnoughts, but the funny thing is I prefer an OM sized guitar. My Dreads are: D18, Golden era D18, Santa Cruz Tony Rice, D15, Guild D55, Takamine (don't remember which one)

I have more but these are the ones I have multiples of.
