Work and household responsibilities have delayed me from taking the next step in this experiment until tonight. Out of the available on-hand candidates for bridge position that I mentioned previously, I decided to first try the Dimarzio Eric Johnson Custom *Neck*. I don't own an EJ bridge pup, and also I wanted something that is 4 conductor because I am also going to incorporate a Blackouts Modular Preamp. This first trial will be standard 3 position wiring so I won't be splitting any coils on either of these pickups just yet. The goal for this limited experiment is to determine:
1) can a noiseless, vintage Strat voiced single-coil design hold its own in the neck position both by itself and in combo with a mild bridge position humbucker in a Les Paul style guitar
2) and can both pickups gain from the benefits of an active circuit via the Blackouts preamp, vs suffering from it
If I don't finish tonight, I will by tomorrow evening. I plan to record some audio samples and post them up.
