Which Humbuckers Work Well With Triple Shot Rings

Other than P-Rails, what traditional humbuckers work well with Triple Shots? I love all the switching options, but in reality don't have a good enough ear to hear the difference between coils and parallel options on the few YouTube videos I've watched. Are there any good humbuckers to consider that offer unique tones in each position, or are P-Rails the only viable option? Thanks for your time and insight!

Other than the P-Rails, maybe the 59/Custom Hybrid or one of the DiMarzios with unbalanced coils. With most humbuckers the slug and screw coils sound pretty similar, so you really end up with 3 different sounds instead of 4. I'm using my Triple Shots with a set of P-Rails.

I have a set in my Ibanez RG with an Alternative 8 in the bridge paired with an RCA4 Distortion n . I also swapped out the screws in the Distortion n with hex heads. All the positions produce usable and different tones.

Absolutely, I have no idea why they don't market them more heavily that they do on humbuckers. The best approach is use whatever pickups you think are best for the set. Even two bridge pickups. How you'd use different brands is to match the color code of he pickups. Guitarelectronics.com can help. Whether it be Anderson, Bare Knuckle, Dimarzo, Fender, Schaller to Wolfetone being some on this dictionary of pickup color codes I have would work. The only ones that won't are active pickups.

The triple shot tones can be achieved with two or more push pull pots which is how I usually set my guitars up so I can do this with stacked single coils. With every new tone the triple shots give you every position drops the volume of the pickup as it's coilsplits and parallel so the higher the output of the pickup(s) the better to get a broader spectrum of tones. So something like an invader, JB, any variation of custom, distortion, black winter, alternative 8 and so forth at least in the bridge if it was my guitar.

I remember emailing seymour duncan suggesting a loaded pickguard version of this where 3 are installed. I mean the "Everything axe" the name doesn't suit it. Three triple shots without a 7 way mod gives you 44 different tones and of course a 7 string version would be nice.

Are the curved bottom triple shots for LP style guitars also tapered back to front? The guitar I'm considering putting them on needs the taper to make the the pickups parallel to the strings. While not always needed, my OCD makes loves those parallel lines :) .

It can help to have hotter pickups for parallel and split to not be too weak.

I totally disagree with this.

Every humbucker I have used with Triple Shots produces usable tones. Some certainly work better, and the StagMag is a great suggestion. But I wouldn't cross any bucker off the list.

Hi there GuitarDoc. I believe I've read in other Triple Shot posts that you've sanded the bottom of the arched bottoms flat to better fit your guitar. If so did you run into any issues, or have any suggestions? I need/want a flat bottom but with the added height of the bridge pickup and the back to front taper on both rings. Sanding seems like a fool proof way to get my setup dialed in.

Has anyone tried Triple Shots paired with Lace Sensor Dullys? Seems like Lace should have invented the rings as they appear to be perfect for those pickups. Really, seems like an ideal combo.

Yes, I have done it a couple times. Sanding the bottoms is a pretty simple way to do what you want. But you DO have to be careful that you don't do too much. If you sand off too much you can get into the fragile electronics or remove the little "buttons" that hold the circuit board to the mounting ring.
