Re: which is better for metal

I'm going to go ahead and say neither. And you can keep the whole Traynor vs. Kustom situation to one thread. Honestly.

Also, at the store where you tried these, did you try playing metal? If the store wants a sale, they'll let you try out the amps at a nice volume.

Re: which is better for metal

only Traynor i'd concider able to do metal well would be the newer 3 channel head i think called the Custom Classic... when i tried it out it had a real metal like tone about it

Now the blue Traynor combos i have not heard metal tones out of them... without help via a pedal that is... they are a great hard rock amp but maybe not metal..... not sure as i never played one cranked to hear them

Re: which is better for metal

i can't play both now because they sold the kustom

my apologies. i didn't know you were the one who determines what people can and can't post. please forgive my ignorance.

While you're allowed to post whatever you want here, we usually like to keep likeminded topics to one topic. Instead of posting about the Traynor, the Kustom, the Traynor vs. Custom and overall good combos in your price range for metal, you can keep it to one topic.

And again, neither will be very good for metal. Especially the Traynor, as it has the tube sag emulation. Didn't you previously own a Vox Valvetronix amp? I've heard some quality metal tunes with that amp...

Re: which is better for metal

the vox sounds mostly like a solid state to me. i've actually found a way to dial in the sound i want now, so the thread is over.

Re: which is better for metal

Well as the others said before neither is gonna be really that great for metal.
You want tight metal sound. get an Engl Screamer 50 combo. Judging by the prices they should be rather close together and if not the extra saving should be worth the difference in tone(not saying the others are bad, just not really metal)

i wanted to try an engle but no one around here carries them, and there's 2 million people in this city! guitar center only carries b-52 in that price range, so i think the kustom and traynor were the best choices that i had to choose from.

Re: which is better for metal

Woah Loserchief, those are like $1200. But I think that's the way to go. I do not know agent007's age, but in general I think when you're young and can save up money without having to pay bills, gas (to a point), etc. you should buy the guitar stuff you really want. It's so much more fulfilling, to me, to buy something after working long and hard for it, and when you're young and can dedicate time to an after school/summer job is the best time. Once you hit college, you'll be paying for books, gas for a car, etc. but you'll have all the guitar stuff you want. And if you stop playing metal, you could sell that Engl for a great amount of money and get another great amp that suits your style.

even after graduating with two degrees, i can't seem to afford to just go out and buy whatever i want. until i make some money playing music, i can't really justify the costs associated with it.

Re: which is better for metal

Sorry for that. the European pricing for those amps is closer together than it seems on the US market. A screamer might be more expensive but it has what you want and with four channels it also offers a lot more to explore.

sounds good, but i've decided that i'm going to save up, trade my traynor in in one year, and probably buy a mesa boogie or soldano.

Cool deal, dude. I think it's better to get what you want the first time and put up with what you got, 'cause there will be a big payoff.

And congratulations on the two degrees! It was probably a ton of hard work.

Re: which is better for metal

not really. i used to work a dead-end jobs, so the desperation to get ahead made it a whole lot easier. by the way, i wasn't bragging or anything. i was just making the point that a college degree can only go so far sometimes. i wish i could afford some high-dollar equipment, but i do good to pay my cars and mortgage.
