Which is tighter with high gain - SH 5 or SH 6

Re: Which is tighter with high gain - SH 5 or SH 6

I would go with the SH5, the custom is clearer to me, but it depends on the amp and the guitar... sometimes you can use the SH6 and get the clarity with a lower gain amp...

I have had guitars with the SH6 and due to the fact that I usually use really high gain amps... it muds and has a little too much shrill for my tone..

I loved the Custom Custom.. but I would also suggest the Custom 5... what type of setup are you using?

Tighter? As a general rule, the Distortion. What kind of guitar, amp, pedals, and tuning are you using?

The Cusotm would be tighter under hi-gain!It won't cut like a SH6 ,but tightness and well defined chug will be the result!

I find the custom to be a little "tighter" as well ... i like the thickness of the sh-6 but it definitely is a bit darker under gain than the custom in my experience. I have 2 gtrs with customs in the bridge and have been using a distortion in my superstrat until today when i tried the crazy 8 for a little bit and then slapped in a JB to try for a while.

The Distortion still has good detail though and if you are looking for heavy in more of a queens of the stone age way i would pick the distortion. It's really thick compared to the custom.

The SH-6 is going to be tighter in the same way that EL34s are tighter than 6L6s; there's less bass, period.

The Custom is going to have the tighter low end, in reality, but the SH-6 can be perceived as pretty tight, because it doesn't have a huge amount of low end.

I put a custom in my guitar and it has pretty big low end, nice and detailed. Anything else have the clarity of the custom or better?

Re: Which is tighter with high gain - SH 5 or SH 6

the customs big low end can be overpowering if your amp also has a lot of low end. on my amp i have to turn the bass down to zero with the custom and even then its still too much. i played with polepieces and heights and couldn't get the kind of detail and clarity i wanted- chord notes just seemed to run into each other. the jazz bridge is supposed to be really clear under high gain.

I say Custom myself. In all of my guitars the Distortion is maybe not uber bassy, but it's still powerful on the low end. The Custom is more defined and feels tighter to me.

For an all time winner though, The FullShred. It eats gain for breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. It gets tighter and never loses clarity.

I vote Custom also, but it does have a big kick in the low end.

Alex, sounds like to me you need to try the full shred. If its still too bassy, its not the pickup hehe.

Re: Which is tighter with high gain - SH 5 or SH 6

Neither under high gain. Under medium gain, they both are tight. For a high gain setting with tightness, you need a lower output bucker.

Re: Which is tighter with high gain - SH 5 or SH 6

my DD keeps up EASY with our rythm guitarists 81/81 combo!! plus, if you get much tighter than that i think it sounds fake anyways...there my .02$
