Looking for Real Life
heres what i want

something footswitchable
decent amp models
great cab simulation (has to be able to work alone, not x cab with y amp, if i just want x cab it has to be an option, or y amp)
able to plug into the front of the amp
less than $400

what's the verdict?

The V-amp 2 really excels at emulating high gain tones (which I don't think you want).

If you want an amp, try the Vox AD30-50 or the Roland Cube 60.

EDIT: You wanted something to put into an amp. You might want to try the Vox ToneLab or a Digitech GNXR(is that the model?).

The POD series fits all of those descriptions I believe, and sounds better than most other modelers out there. I heard a file comprised of Vox Tonelab models panned hard one way and a similarly set PODxt model panned the other... and they were pretty much identical. That's recorded of course, where modelers most excel IMO.

If it's mostly for going through an amp or pa than I think the gt-8 is insanely cool, but the podxt is the highest quality modeler I've heard so far. The vamp2 is stupidly good for the money though and I can't ever regret getting it because it was so dirt cheap. It sounds good for highgain, a tad sterile for clean unless you soak it in verb, and the leads are always a struggle to for me to get them to sound natural. My friend has one and has gotten some gorgeous tones using his ibanez jem(though they mostly sound the same) with mostly a paf pro in the neck. I've gotten goodish tones- but never quite as good as him. As someone else stated I think the vamps best quality is the highgain tones- which are plentiful and of very good quality for the money. You just have to notch out the digital fizz.

Hey man these guys are right about the V-amp2 it sounds great to me. If you don't have a good amp you can get the V-ampire for $250 US, which is a 1x12 with the V-amp2 built in. It's got a foot switch and is MIDI with 125 presets that you can change. Definately worth taking a look at. I would recommend you get a MIDI cable as it is hard to adjust all of the peramiters from the front of the V-amp or Vampire. You can find it on musicians friend and others. They are due out with a 2x10 stereo version soon I would wait for that if I was going to buy one. Line 6 also makes great stuff from what I hear, check out pod live xt.

Pod sounds a bit better than the V-amp 2, but is much more expensive. IMO, get a V-amp 2 and a quality overdrive pedal with the money you save, wo put through the v-amp's clean settings. Vamp has a midi footswitch, but there is a slight pause between changing settings cos it's a MIDI thing. No biggie, but maybe worth remembering.

Yeah, the VAMP is worth looking at. It's so much more inexpensive than the others. It may not be what you're looking for, but if you can save that much money, give it a shot.

If I were you, for $400 I'd buy two V-Stacks w/out the LED option. The Tweedy's good for deluxe-ish cleans and a bluesy OD. The BHM's great for hi-gain lead tones (think of Brian May), while the Classic does the Plexi crunch and cleans. They are all-analog BTW, which is a great advantage I think. You can get a decent variety of GREAT sounds with two of them.

I tend to plug my BHM simply into the mixing console at the rehearsal room; I can finetune the cab simulation w/ its 'Bass' and 'Cut' controls. I have also gigged with it before and I can say, with a tube amp it sings...

thank you for deleting your posts john, you kinda make me feel like an idiot sometimes, i know that's not your intention, though

what about the POD xt live? only a hundred or so more than a regular pod & i get all that neat other ****, maybe run it with a line selector or something, i dunno

Don't feel like an idiot Drew...I'm sarcastic sometimes and it's not really my business,nor my problem concerning your quests for great tone...I don't want to be negative,so it's best I delete my messages and leave the negative comments to myself.... :wink:

We're all searching for the best tones we can get and I'm no different that you are buddy...Maybe I'm just jealous that you may have more time to search and correct for your tone than I have?...... :smack: :)
