i'm leaning towards the black russian, just from the review from drew.

heres my setup

-epi LP junior w/ lollar p90 in the bridge strings: D'addario Chrome flatwound 12s
-PRS SE soapbar II maple with stocker pickups D'addario regular 11s but tuned to C std
-vintage duo-sonic soon to have 11s d'addario and a fast track 2 and a chopper for the neck

hiwatt custom 20 tube 1x10 combo w/ el84s (open back - not the current model) into a marshall 4x12

pedals: memory man stereo w/ hazarai, octave multiplexer, voodoo labs superfuzz

sound looking for: stoner/doom

If you are looking at current ones, the Russian is more distortion like and the NYC and Little ones are closer to fuzz. I think they'd both work out for you. However... Lucky you! Almost every store stocks both...

Re: which muff?

The only difference with the Beast is internal feedback loops. His recordings weren't the best of the original pedal, it sounds more like the new recordings of the Beast witht he feedback loops off.

I don't know which is more fun, the Supercollider or a clone of the Swollen Pickle I have. Both put a massive grin on my face when I plug them in.

MMmmm . . . .

. . . deff. NOT the easiest question to answer mate !

Looks like we might like the same type of music - i think !

I have : SG faded w. SD A2P's, some fuzz boxes and HAD a Vox AC15 (...stolen)

Some fuzz boxes that i have : "regular" NYC Big Muff, black Russian Muff, new Bass Muff (in the mail), Double Muff, Barber Trifecta = super unknown/under rated, VDLab Super Fuzz.

It comes down to what you like, what you want, and, and, and . . .

Also, do not forget about the Hoof & Tusk from EarthQuacker Devices, and the Rams Head from D*A*M*.
Then there is the also underrated D&S I and D&S II from Maxon !
And the Analogman Peperment Fuzz . . . do not over look this beauty !
Oh, and Jacues FuseBlower - real good Muff-like fuzz !!!
Also, Fu Manchu (stoner gawds) used the BBE Free Fuzz on more than half of their new album, do deff worht a look !
Should i mention the Fender Blender, at all ?

Hope this helps
James

Re: which muff?

I'm very interested in maybe getting a muff. Price is an object with me, but considering that the Little Big Muff or the Russian are the ones I'm looking at. I'm leaning towards the Little BM. It's supposed to sound more like the older ones than the new NYC. It's really going to depend on what I can find at the right place at the right time i'm sure.

also, if you just want Fuzz tones, consider other pedals. The blue Hendrix Fuzz Face sounds really good from all the demos I've heard. And that new Boss Fuzz pedal is also really good, as it has a wide variety of fuzz sounds. But if you want that famous wooly low end, the muff is the only way to go.

Only if you over-look the WOOLY MAMOTH & the Fender Blender . . .

. . . both are SUPER WOOLY !!!
