For a strat that I'm building. It has Antiquity Texas Hots in the middle and neck and a Custom/'59 hybrid in the bridge, 250k pots. I am torn between rosewood and maple. I love the sound of the maple on my other strat, but am wondering if with the Texas Hots and a full size humbucker if Rosewood would sound better. Suggestions?

Re: Which neck wood?

like i mentioned in your other thread, i'm now a die hard maple neck on any form of strat or tele guy...it just gives them this look/feel/sound that can't be beat IMO!

Re: Which neck wood?

I hear very little difference between rosewood and maple on a maple neck...The rosewood on the same guitar "might" be a tad warmer, but I'm not sold on it...The neck is still maple with a thin veneer slice of rosewood....

no if the tone isnt an issue then just go with whatever looks better with the particular finish you are going to use

Re: Which neck wood?

complete...welcome to the forums and very nice use of a delonge strat! those guitars are like fenders hidden jems, take off the guard and stick in whatever electronics you want on a new guard and you have yourself a great cheap hardtail!!

Re: Which neck wood?

thanks man! I love that guitar to death, the JB Jazz with all those coil taps wired up gives that guitar so much versatility. The construction is top quality for a mid range guitar and that hardtail just has so much sustain. Delonge was on to something, i think he just needed to reevaluate the electronics package ;)

Re: Which neck wood?

my personal preference is rosewood. Off topic... I am really wanting to try a rosewoodneck with a maple board.

Re: Which neck wood?

Rosewood as Tony Joe White says,"It's got that dark tone." Breaks the glassy tone up enough to give you a bit more of a spread of tone; but still enough edge to be a "Fender" and not a "Gibson". Warmth!

Re: Which neck wood?

I've come to prefer maple boards...however I like both.

With 250K pots and a full size bucker, I think I'd be inclined to go with Maple just so it may not sound too dark.

Re: Which neck wood?

i would have to say a maple neck with rosewood or ebony, but the maple/maple config works well too!
