Which Nut?

I know you're in the Philippines, but Graph Tech's customer support is really good. If you can call toll-free or send 'em an email, they're really helpful. However, do not buy directly from there- they're cheaper through other dealers.

(PS I have some Filipino relatives from Kidapawan visiting my folks right now.)

Awesome! My hometown is not too far from Kidapawan. I'm "based" in Metro Manila though since 1995, but I always go to my home town for at least 2 weeks in a year.

My friend's bro is visiting the US (in San Diego) this Oct so we'll order the parts and have it shipped to him in SD. So we'll just get the parts when he gets here. So we'll buy from a distributor rather than from Graphtec. Thanks though. :)

I don't have any links to substantiate this, I'm sorry. My luthier had told me that they're self lubricating due to the nature of their composition. I'm afraid that's the best info that I have. Depending on the severity of action in your
"whammy bar thingy" you may have better luck with a locking nut.

I believe a locking nut would kill sustain. My strat doesn't sustain too well, and that would just make my guitar undesireable.

I have my old strat-type Epi fitted with a Kahler Flyer trem and a locking nut with it, and jumbo frets. There was a DRASTIC drop in sustain. I don't wanna risk that with a locking nut on a strat.

Besides, I won't dive bomb with it. I'd pick my Ibanez RG if I need to do some Satch, Vai or VH stuff. I just want it to stay in tune after doing "top gun anthem" and such.

I've read a few online about Bone being self lubricating, but that's maybe because the string grinds on the bone nut making it powdery, therefore, lubricating the nut. I'm not sure if I want that.

Best.

Thread title.

Ever.

Ahahaha! :)

I went and measured my two Strats' nuts with my caliper. One measured 1.651" and the other measured 1.677".

Exactly the reason why I resorted to online documents rather than measuring (for FretFire) MY NUT, with a RULER. Thanks Man! :)

Last (only) time I was there was Dec 75-Jan76.

My family lives out in the middle of nowhere, that I remember. It was funny talking to my relatives, because I haven't seen them in 30 years. Hearing stories of what I did when I was 6 years old... I also remember staying in a hotel in Davao...

WOW. 30 years is a loooooong time. I hope you have a great time there. You're in the Philippines already or in transit?

I hope the mods don't penalize us on being off topic. :)

Re: Which Nut?

I had a tech "convert" my strat to Graph Tech, and, one thing's for sure, my sustain is now MUCH better. BUT, because i really wasn't breaking strings, he suggested TUSQ (fake ivory) products. So he did saddles, nut, and string tree. My MIM strat sings now. Trem is blocked by all five springs-tight-to body and...did i mention sustain and singing tone. Looks odd though, white saddles (but my strat's white) check out the graph tech site shop. TUSQ is not just for acoustics anymore.... YAY! Rave-rave

Not an option for me. I bought a Wilkinson for a reason. Cool info about TUSQ though. I've been wondering if it was some kinda plastic or something. Thanks! Rock on! :)

Yeah, the money. I've been to the US in 2003 and saw G3 in Concord, CA. Was in St. Louis for 2 weeks but didn't get to check out the bands there. I heard they have a pretty "healthy" music scene there. Got my Ibanez RG in Denver through my Aunt. Went back to San Francisco, and bought some Duncan Performers. I got to go to Chicago too, and went up the 96th floor of the John Han**** bldg. Best of times! G3 was a "dream come true"! I hope i'd get to see Megadeth next. That would be killer! :)
