I'm using Boss OD-1 for boosting my input signal and it sounds great,I also tried the TS808 mod on Line 6 DM-4 but I'd like to learn about the others...out of these choices which one or ones sound the best and are more suitable for input boosting?
OD-1 -----------------> warm sound,without compression uncolored...
DS-1
TS-808 ---------------> good boost but with some compression...
TS-9
OD-3
SD-1
Dod Preamp 250
MXR MicroAmp

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

Barber Direct drive is the best that I tried. I also hear that the Banzai pedals are good.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

I second the vote for Barber! I use a Direct Drive Super Sport. I used to use a TS9 and the DDSS blows it away.

Cheers,

CJ

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

I have a Direct Drive as well and love it.

The Bad Bob Booster is more of a clean boost thing, but it's great. It's like your tone but on steroids.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

If you're looking for a clean boost to push the front end of a tube amp, then I wouldn't use any of the pedals you have listed. I'd recommend a simple booster pedal like a Fulltone Fat Boost, the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, or what I'm using these days.. Pharoah Amps Class A Booster http://www.pharaohamps.com/

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

It's an arguable thing, but I find most of those Boss, Ibanez, DOD grade pedals to be rubbish. I do like the original Boss OD-1 and some of the Maxon and Ibanez reissues, but why skimp on your lead tone? It hurts to lay out $200+ on an overdrive, but that's where the quality begins. People won't pay $300 for an OD unless it beats the crap out of $75 overdrives, so I don't buy any arguements about Boss and Ibanez being great tone producers. When you've had your fill of buying cheapos and even paying for "the old school chip", you'll start paying more for Barber, Banzai, Klon, Fulltone, T-Rex, G2D, Z-Vexx, Landgraff, SIB, etc, etc, etc. If world class tone is what you're after, you'll go after the good stuff.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

I highly recommend the Duncan pickup booster. It has a 25 db boost, freq settings and true bypass switch. It is a booster with quality and versatility.
I love the way it can also make my single coil pickups sound like humbuckers.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

I gotta try the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster. At least they don't take up a lot of space like some pedals. I never understood why some pedal companies make a giant pedal with 1 on/off button on it? Electroharmonix? Cough, cough!

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

out of that list, i've tried and owned the DS-1 and still own the MXR Microamp. out of the 2, i prefered the MXR Microamp as I can leave it on all the time if I wanted to and it wouldnt dirty the Clean sound and still sounds good with distortion and lead sounds.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

thanks everyone...well I also would like to get Barber, Banzai, Klon, Fulltone, T-Rex, G2D, Z-Vexx, Landgraff, SIB pedals but its hard to find any of them in Istanbul unless I go and get one from USA...I may order one but it takes hell lot of money...I may only get some models of Electro-Harmonix & MXR pedals but they're extremely expensive here :(...the price of Line 6 DM-4 is 450-500$ here but my friend in USA brought me one for 150$ second hand from e-bay...I may get Electro-harmonix OD pedal with real tubes in it but I can't make my decision :smack:

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

How much tax and shipping do you have to pay if you order a pedal direct from the manufacturer? Are there many pedal companies in your region?

One of the sad facts of tone is that in the vast majority of cases, to get a Pro sound you need Pro gear. And Pro gear is expensive.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

A stock Boss DS-1 is my favorite booster pedal.

Only the DS-1 allows me to turn my Tele down to 3 or 4 and get a sparkling clean rock rythym tone and then turn my Tele up to 8, 9 or 10 again and get all the overdrive I could possibly need.

When I use a DS-1, I leave it turned on all the time...just like Vai and Satriani do.

My modded TS-9's are killer, but do not allow me to get a clean tone by turning the guitar's volume control down.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

how can i hammer the crap out of my peavey tube power stage using a booster pedal. i don't want to distort the preamp stage that much

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

The TIM overdrive seems to be pretty popular...

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

I own quite a few of those you have listed there, and my favorite boost pedal is a Boss GE7 EQ. Your amp may sound great in a room but if you bump it up a bit sometimes certain frq tend to be a little ear piercing. I love my GE7 because i can Eq it to the room, or give my leads a smooth low end and back off the high's a bit. I have tried the SD1, TS9, SD pickup booster, and the MXR micro amp. I still prefer the GE7.

Oh, the GE7 can do wonders to an acoustic guitar that does not have an adjustable preamp!!

I didn't see any votes for the Fulltone Fat Boost :(

...but there was a vote for the Bad Bob Booster, which Fulltone copied when they made the Fat Boost.

Re: Which one is the best booster pedal???

for anyone who has used the mxr micro amp, how is it, and is the sd pickup booster basically the same?
