Re: Which ones are the preferred Bogner Ecstasys?
Grits,
There are several things I look for in an amplifier these days. Here's my criterion:
1) No more than 40 watts
2) Tube rectification (I like the sag of a note)
3) Touch sensitivity
I've been through a lot of boutique amps (Bogner, Egnater, Two Rock, Bad Cat to name a few). Fred at %13 has IMHO come up with something special. He has taken a bit of everything from Fender, Marshall and Vox tonewise and rolled it up in his amp design. That's not to say his amps can sound exaclty like them (although in some instances they come close). They have a distinctive tone that might not everyone's cup of tea. The amps are touch sensitive, articulate but have a nice girth/thickness to their sound. I'd venture to say that they can cut in just about any mix. Most of his amps have a channel dedicated to a 12AX7 and another to a 5879. The 5879 is a monsterous sounding tube. It gives up the goods (od/distortion) at around 10/11 O'clock.
I'm lucky to own several of Fred's amps and could not be happier. If you're looking for a versatile amp, go with the FTR37. It is by far his most popular amp.
Hey Sherman,
what do you like about the %13 range? any particular faves?
-a friend of mine is importing them soon, and he's looking for recommendations on what to order...
