Which ones are the preferred Bogner Ecstasys?

Re: Which ones are the preferred Bogner Ecstasys?

Hey Sherman,

what do you like about the %13 range? any particular faves?

-a friend of mine is importing them soon, and he's looking for recommendations on what to order...

Grits,

There are several things I look for in an amplifier these days. Here's my criterion:

1) No more than 40 watts
2) Tube rectification (I like the sag of a note)
3) Touch sensitivity

I've been through a lot of boutique amps (Bogner, Egnater, Two Rock, Bad Cat to name a few). Fred at %13 has IMHO come up with something special. He has taken a bit of everything from Fender, Marshall and Vox tonewise and rolled it up in his amp design. That's not to say his amps can sound exaclty like them (although in some instances they come close). They have a distinctive tone that might not everyone's cup of tea. The amps are touch sensitive, articulate but have a nice girth/thickness to their sound. I'd venture to say that they can cut in just about any mix. Most of his amps have a channel dedicated to a 12AX7 and another to a 5879. The 5879 is a monsterous sounding tube. It gives up the goods (od/distortion) at around 10/11 O'clock.

I'm lucky to own several of Fred's amps and could not be happier. If you're looking for a versatile amp, go with the FTR37. It is by far his most popular amp.

I really like all the Divided by 13 amps I've tried at True Tone Music in Santa Monica. I was trading some licks with Matt Scannell from Vertical Horizon last time I was in there, and he's also been won over by /13.

The only thing, besides the price, that bugs me about them is that all the models numbers are hard to tell apart, unless you REALLY know the amps.
I wish he would have given them all unique names. Just a minor nitpick tho.
Beautiful looking and sounding amps, for sure!

Thanks for taking the time. Sounds like we have a lot in common when it comes to selecting amps. I'll be sure to recommend the FTR37 to my friend.
