Which pickguard would you pick?

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

I like the Mint Green or creme or off white (I think my screen's color is off). I find pearl can look good but in this case I think less is more.

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

Sorry, but I'm going to have to go with "none". Pearl always looks bad, and mint green doesn't go with maple IMO.

2-tone burst with maple: 1 ply parchment/white/cream pickguard
3-tone burst with maple: 3 ply parchment/white/cream pickguard (kinda like modern Fender). One ply doesn't work because the burst goes too far into the middle so you need the black ply to outline the pickguard.
3-tone burst with rosewood: 3 ply mint green/parchment/white/cream.

I've never seen a 2-tone burst with rosewood.

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

Is that body 2-tone or 3-tone? I can't make up my mind.

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

Looks pretty two tone to me. Either way, regardless of the color you choose, I guess what we should really be asking is, what pickups are you using? Hot or Cool rails? What are you putting in the middle position? I usually prefer white/cream/parchment single coil covers, but I also love it when people install black or mismatching pickups for that hot rodded look. That's probably because I'm a huge Maiden fan.

The rail in the picture is a hot rails but I don't think it will end up in there.

I have another neck for this one and a different trem, and after picking that then I'll go deciding on pickups so that it gets to be different from my 60s style strat which has 2 Ant2 (surfers) and a CS texas special in the bridge. I have a set of fat 50s that I got on ebay and never tried.

My hot Strat like thing will probably be my old roadstar with the callaham trem that sound lovely with a PG and 2x Ant1.

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

So you'll have this?

Surfer/Surfer/Texas Special
Fat50/Fat50/Fat50
Texas Hot/Texas Hot/PG

Sounds like a freaking plan, man!

I didn't try the fats yet. I might make it a noiseless setup for when I go somewhere noisy or something. Not that I have a band. Anyway.

We all know that as soon as that trio is perfected I'll sell it all off and start over :D

The surfer/surfer/taxesspec Strat is very good, though.

Re: Which pickguard would you pick?

I'm curious to hear what you think of Fat 50's. I have a set in a Strat, I think they sound similar in voicing to the Ant II Surfers, but are rounder on the attack, louder / less dynamic, assertive and smooth in the decay. They'll get the job done, and might even be conducive to more upbeat genres of music, but to my ears they're a bit too simple. Similar to, but with a lot less character than Ant. II Surfers.
