I will be getting a JB (bridge) and must decide on a neck pickup, however I hear so many good things about the jazz and the 59, that I feel a bit undecided. Can you guys help me out with some suggestions and insight?:?:

59 is real P.A.F like,it is vocal,sweet and has a warm tone
jazz is clean, has sparkle, and has glassier tone than a 59 and is more articulate with a better clarity overall.

i like the jazz with a JB,this is also seymours personal favorite set:cool:

I think you can't go wrong with either, but I like the Jazz over the 59.

Get the 59 if you want the PAF sound

Get the Jazz if you are leaning more to round Jazz clean sound.

i have a similar problem. i just installed the JB and now my neck stock PU isn't useful anymore..... :(
i think i'll gonna play everything with bridge now which i already did expect one solo.
maybe i get a '59 or jazz or something on ebay for cheap one day....
but still don't know which one I'd like..

I have the '59/Jb combo for some time now and still I am having trouble balancing them out. I already put an Ceramic magnet into the '59. That helpt to make it a little more tight. The '59 has way better cleans that the JB and I heard the Jazz has even better cleans.
What my biggest problem is is that both pickups sound great in their own voice but switching from the one to another is a big diference. Going from '59 to bridge the Jb sounds very bright and maybe a little harsh. Going the other way the '59 may sound a little muddy and bassy and doesn't have the sustain the JB does.
I would suggest having a volume and tone control for both pickups if you are going for the '59/JB combo. It is a very versatile combo though!

Hey Davey, do you have the same balance problem with that combination or am I doing something terribly wrong?

*edit* The '59 sounds FAT and has great cleans but is on the bassy side. Some people call it 'boomy'. It definately has balls.:13:

how sounds the jazz under high gain compared to the '59?
is there an other neck pu with more output that matches the jb?

I gotta differ here...the Jazz is way too bright for a neck pickup, in fact, it is a shame it is called Jazz at all- it might turn a lot of people off buying it.
I suggest an Alnico Pro II...I have a JB/Al Pro II combo in my Brian Moore and it rocks. More 'meaty' than a 59 as well.

+ 1 for the 59

i have the 59 / JB, and i couldnt be happier - i play blues and classic rock and a tad of funk, and the JB clean, it sparkles. The 59 gets that vintage vibe going....i love the Jb, and for the bit of funk i play, i can get some quack out of the JB with alot of clean volume and reverb....i think the 59/JB is a great combo, but have never had a jazz to compare. the next hum guitar i get ill get a jazz for, or maybe get a jazz and pop it in, and decied 59 vs jazz, and keep the other one for future guitars or sell it or 30 day...

Nightburst......maybe try the C-5/59 combo?

Yes my next guitar (SG) will probably get the 59/custom combo. Not shure what custom yet but probably one with an alnico 2 as I have a ceramic and an A5 magnet that I can put into it for different sounds.

What about the full shred neck? Is that one a good match for the JB?
I also heard some guys putting a '59 bridge in the neck position to get some more output.

The 59 has more personality but I think the jazz is better for high gain.

I personally would pick the 59. With my amp cranked, it's sounds pretty awesome.

The 59n sounds boomy when I play at low volume levels... but, what's the point of playing quiet?? :D

I will say that the 59 is my favorite neck bucker.

Now if I can just get a Custom installed in to the bridge I may be in tone heaven.

I've got the Jazz/JB combo in one of my Les Pauls and I'm very happy with it.

I also have a Jazz/C5 set that I'll be installing into another guitar.

The Jazz is a great Pup!

To my ears, the Jazz sounds very Rich and Creamy, I haven't noticed it being overly bright. I like em, anyway.
