Which pickups with Eric Clapton Mid boost?

My fender strat is the only guitar I keep tuned to E Standard at the moment, with that being said I've been looking to make it very diverse, as I play anything from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Iron Maiden with it. Right now I'm considering a Lace Sensor Hot gold for the neck and a red and Silver dually in the bridge, but I'm worried that the dually won't mesh well with the Clapton Mid Boost I'm planning on installing. Anyone have any experience with this sort of combination? Should I consider using something else?

The Clapton model was all Golds.

A few forum regulars will know I've talked about building a Strat with Duncan Classic Stack Plus pickups and a Clapton Mid-Boost circuit for about four years now... ;)

I used the mid boost with Classic Stack Plus but, in all honestly, the Fender Vintage Noiseless worked better with the mid boost. I wish I had left the VN in there :/

I currently have STK-S7/STK-S4/STK-S4 in my G&L Legacy with the Clapton mid-boost and it works well for me. Coupled with the TBX control it gives me a lot of tones from spanky clean to raunchy drive.

Re: Which pickups with Eric Clapton Mid boost?

The "boost" is to give single coils some of the sound of a humbucker. I don't know how well that would work with a humbucker. So if you're going to use a bridge humbucker maybe you don't need the boost?

Personally, I didn't care for Clapton's sound when he played the EC Strat with Lace Gold pickups. Sort of bland.

Didn't care for my sound either from the two EC Strats I've owned and before selling them I often thought of replacing the Lace Gold pickups with Antiquity Surfers and wiring it stock. Instead, I just sold the guitars.

But it didn't hum. That was good. And it didn't sound bad. Just not great.

ugh, really? i hated those things. with or without the boost. i just gave them away i wanted rid of them so bad. i kept them in for more than a month both ways but never got along with them.

thats the same setup i have (minus the tbx) and i love it in my hardtail strat

Re: Which pickups with Eric Clapton Mid boost?

Thanks for the input everybody, I'll look into the sets you guys are using. Also, has anyone here used any DiMarzio Single coils with the Clapton Boost? I was looking through their single coils after making this thread and am quite curious if an injector bridge and an Area 67 in the neck would get me to where I'm going :33:

I'd just consider the Pickup Booster, and you can use it with any guitar you have.

I don't think I'll go down this route, the whole reason I'm doing the clapton boost is because it's something I only need for one guitar, not the whole rig. Simply put, my shred guitars don't need beefing up.

Injector bridge is decently hot as is. The Clapton circuit has a boost (6db?) even with the knob rolled all the way off. That with the Injector bridge could be quite hot.
