which speaker/cab configuration?

well, the bassman 50 is getting made into a crazy blonde/blackface bassman hybrid, but to get that real classic 50's/60's tone I'm thinkin I'll hafta invest in a new cab

so i was thinkin 2x12 (of course), with either v30's or jensen c12n's, in closed or partial open back, I've heard v30's lack bottom end so in that case i'd need closed, but no one really ever comments about the bottom on jensens so I'm not sure

so, how would each sound? I mean i'm lookin for that classic sound, but i need it to be able to get mean & nasty if necessary, and it prolly will be. So basically good classic rock/rockabilly/blues tone that can get into hard rock territory with the right pickups & EQ settings

Vintage 30's in an open 2X12 will sound good clean or nasty.

I've been doing a V30/ C12 combo for a while and it sounds great either clean or dirty. I'm thinking of going to an Eminence combo though, probably a Governor/Texas Heat. I'm hoping to get the same EQ curve as before, but with a bit more power handling. Besides, Eminence makes great speakers for not a lot of money.


BTW, if you want to keep a somewhat vintage character, the open back 2x12 is a must. a closed back just pushes too hard to sound authentic. Right now I'm running through an old semi-closed Vox 2x12 and both my BF Bassman and my Digital Preamp/tube power amp rig sound great through it. :burnout:

well i believe the original bassman cabs were closed back
