Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

I voted jenson, because the C12NA's in my bassman are just sweet....

but weber is great, too, got a real nice 8" for my moms vibrochamp...

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

That's your amp in the avatar? Sweet little rig! What year is it? IMO Jensens always sounded the best with old Fenders.

Although I did get the opportunity to play a '66 Deluxe Reverb with a Celestion. Someone put a single V30 in it along with NOS General Electric tubes and WOW... some of the sweetest, most syrupy tones I've ever heard!

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

I like Emminence speakers, mainly because they're middle of the road and do it all. But, I have a vintage Altec 12", not real sure of the power rating, but it will handle anything that I throw at it and gives me a great sort of "Santanaesque" tone. That one's probably my favorite.

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

I have G12K-85 16ohm speakers in my cab. I've plugged into V30's and Greenbacks and found they shorten the tonal range with my rig.

You are not alone bro. I don't really like the v30s either. :wall:

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

Weber for my clean tones...(Fender amps)Jensens are cool also..
Celestion V30 or G12H 30s for my British tones(Marshalls)

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

eminence legend 125's

I don't care what anyone says, they have great cleans, and they're perfect for rock. Metal? No, but REAL rock, rockabilly, blues rock, punk rock, classic rock, they got all that down, for me anyways

I use one of those with the stock utah in my '68 Fender 2x12. They don't seem to be very common, but they have a real smooth tone. I plan to replace the Utah with either a G12H30 or a Vintage 30, or maybe an Eminence V12.

BTW I've hated Vintage 30's in Marshall cabs, But loved them in Mesa Recto cabs. It may be that they just need a bigger cab to smooth out their tone.
I also really liked them in a Fender Bassbreaker, and a Mesa Maverick, both open back combos.

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

does speaker wattage handling add up. like two 30 watt speakers can handle 60 watts? And are speakers rated at their breaking point for distortion?

ie-you have 2 g12h30's at 8 ohms each. Does this mean they can handle 60 watts from the amp or does it mean they start distorting at 60 watts?

Thought I'd take a poll to see what people like...

Also... I'm planning on getting a Marshall Greenback-loaded cab for my new Mesa/Boogie Rectoverb head, but they only come in 16ohm and my head has outputs for 4 and 8. I've heard that running incorrect ohmage loads can alter the tone and damage the amp. Can I rewire the cab for 8ohm operation?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. i just don't like'em either. No bass and too much slice in the highs. The Green Backs are just much better with my Marshalls. I am interested in hearing the G12H's or perhaps something from eminence though. My gut tells me the G12H in particular might be a different voice that still works with my gear.

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

A vintage 30 G12H30 mixture. Since I've tried it, I'm so hooked. Actually it's a hellatone 60 hellatone 30 mixture. Avatar speakers takes the vintage 30's and G12h30's and does something to them to make them sound even sweeter--plus they're cheaper than buying one new. They just slap a new label over the Celestion label. :smoker: :cool3:

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

this is my problem...i don't know lol...i'm looking into getting an avatar cab. but i can't decided on speakers at all...they say a popular combo is 2 G12H30 on bottom and two V30's on top...i may try that but i don't know yet.

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

I just ordered two Celestion G12 Century Vintage Neodymium for my lucky 13 2X12 combo mainly because they weigh only about 3 1/2 lbs per unit.

I know your tastes in gear are pretty similar to mine so I'd like a review of these when you get 'em!

Re: Which Speakers are your favorite?

for 12's i love the alnico blues, such a sweet sound. in general i like celestions best for 12's, i use the g12m greenback, gh12-30, and v30 the most and they all have great sounds, just different. the webers and tone tubbys ive tried were nice too
10's i like the jensen p10r's and a couple of teds speakers the 10a100 and 10a125 are both very nice
