yeah i know i kinda already made a thread about this, but, well, here goes

2x12 to be used with an old, real warm NOS tubed bassman

with a strat neck pickup, well, ever seen the TV show 'Becker'? if so, well, you'll know what i'm getting at. Once i get a s/s/s strat (maple fretboard) I'll end up posting another thread about which new pickups to get for it, dunno if that helps or not but, eh.

with a 59 bridge, eh, getting into brian setzer/rev horton heat territory, but when cranked to hell needs to get into like southern rock tones

with dual PG fat strat, hm, on the bridge with mild distortion, real clean & bright, sorta nekromantix sounding, but when cranked & used on the neck or mid position, like...heavy blues rock/classic rock

yeah I'm prolly asking for too much but what's the verdict?

please specify open, closed, or partial open back aswell. Gonna get it from avatar so all are options

If i were you, i'd just go for a 4x12 with 4 texas heats, sealed. I was always drilled with the myth that open backs are louder....that's if you're playing in a tiny room.

A good closed back is like using a magnifying glass to kill ants-you focus a tight, loud sound at your audience. I know it would sound like blasphemy to you, but a marshall 4x12 is really really great for big shows with all of the tones/styles you suggested. Try to get the most marshallish 4x12 type setup from avatar and you'll be happy camper.

That cabinet has to be the best thing that marshall makes today, hands down.

eh, i think marshall would sound too british

as you can see I'm going for american tones

2x12 closed with 2 texas heats would be an option though, care to review them a little more thoroughly?

It might provide you with that elusive sound you're looking after.

texas heats handle a ton of volume headroom wise. Scott_F has played them. Very american, very headroomish, very clean.

And from what i've heard, you gotta be loud for your shows so make sure you go closed back on the cabs. A 4x12 with heats wont sound as british as you think either, they dont get that upper mid range speaker distortion that a 30 watt greenback would get. It'd be like a fairly tight, loud, focused american tone.

yeah i tried the twin, too flabby when cranked

I'd rather go with a 2x12 though
