Which tubes do you think are going?

My Rivera is starting to make little popping noises and after it gets really warmed up the sound can completely breakup when you play. Sometimes it will be worse than others for a few minutes but after it starts it seems to always be there at the end of every note. Sounds like over driven distortion. I guessing the power tubes and I have another set here to go in but if its the preamp tubes I'm going to have to get some . I used the last spare I had last month. Its been so long I figured I had some but who knows where they are now.

Always start with V1 your first in line preamp tube and work towards the phase inverter and output stages....More than likely one of your preamp tubes though.

Lightly tap on the preamp tubes and see if you can figure out which one is bad or going bad..Use a wooden pencil or a chopstick..

V1 is normally the preamp tube furthest away from your output tubes.Use your manual to help you with the tube locations if you have one?

I do have the manual :) . I think I'll go that way first because it is easier. I did the tapping test the other night at practice but the culprit wouldnt give himself up that easy!

It was in V4. It had a GT 12ax7 mullard in it. I started with 3 of those and 2 of the GT chinese and now one of each has gone :)
